The introduction of private bus operators brought down the prices for paying customers. Bus Eireann had a monopoly and could charge what they wanted. They were rarely on time. I was on a bus once, the driver was taking the p!ss he was so slow. Obviously on the clock. I got off at my stop and went in to the shop. On my way out who did I see reading at the magazine rack only the useless cunt of a bus driver. Passengers waiting like lemons on the bus, traffic held up because of him.
yes mate, Private operators are paying people peanuts to drive buses, are they suitably qualified? Some day all private companies will pay workers fuck all, wont that be great? CLGs will be making billions while the workers will be paid shit - great news eh

Despite what the unions say, the salaries of bus drivers in the private sector is not what Bus Eireann drivers are worried about. In fact their demands for a pay hike means that people on minimum pay in the private sector end up funding the pay increase through increased taxes.

Also remember its most likely costing the exchequer money to subsidise the low paid private operator bus drivers with medical cards and social welfare top ups etc to make up for their minimum pay.

This is not about the private bus operator though. Union’s are using this race to the bottom as an excuse to maintain or bump up their worker’s pay. Bus Eireann drivers are overpaid, it’s not the only issue facing Bus Eireann. The issues facing Bus Eireann are the same across all the public secotr/civil service. Lack of efficiencies and accountability as well as inflated salaries.

Insolvency would indicate there are inefficiencies.
No accountability because bus drivers refuse to believe their salaries have any impact on this and are actually looking for a pay rise.
