True true. Dublin hurlers are still a long away from the top sadly.
I hope McCrabbe’s injury isn’t as bas as is being reported but his main loss would be as a free taker and he doesn’t contribute very much other than that.
has dropped a couple short that you would be expecting him to score, doesn’t seem to be much of a breeze around
It is alright. Unlike Seanie O’Connor he contributes something in open play though.
free taking so good he got an all star for it
Brick Walsh is a legend
What a comeback by Galway, After being 1-13 to 1-9 down, they recovered to win 1-18 to 1-11.
Impressive in fairness
Late enough pull by nagle on mccrabbe
Apart from the Laois and Kilkennt matches being called off I think I was fairly spot on with my predictions this week
I’m of the opinion Garry Maguire isn’t up to much.
He liable to the odd howler WTB. Moran went to town for the Deise. 1-4/5 at least. Dub still have a lot of work to do.
I had heard they were doing an awful lot of conditioning work and were looking to be a lot more physical a a result. They weren’t too physical today now but you’d get the impression they haven’t a lot of hurling done.
I thought Maguire let the last goal go through him a bit although it was fairly point blank. Don’t think the likes of Boland, Durkin or Flynn and probably a few more are up to it at this level. McCrabbe had a touch of class in most things he did before the injury, one absolute monster point in the first half. Couldn’t say for sure but thought the injury just looked like he caught his leg on the turf? It was a ten minute stoppage anyway, I’d say it’s definitely the tibia that’s gone. He’ll be doing well to puck another ball before the end of the year if that’s the case.
Id be surprised at that considering they made the walsh cup final and have a number of lads playing fitz. they need to ditch a few players like durkan, peter kelly and john kelly. I know they were missing dotsy today and he was a loss. I wouldnt be holding my breath for them to rattle a leinster championship until they beat a big team. wexford last year doesnt count as they are no longer considered a big team imo.
Cork 1-22 Offaly 1-11 FT.
Good win - a few points:
-
Donal Og, good as ever, some nice precise puck-outs as well.
-
Shane Murphy and Shane O’Neill generally very good, as was Cadogan when he came on. Cunningham subbed at half time, didn’t strike one as the kind of dominant figure we need around the box and was hesistant the few times the ball was around him.
-
Center back line, very mixed. Brian Murphy was fine, but it makes little sense to have one of the best corner backs in the country at wing back and one of your most skillful, energetic hurlers wasting away in the corner. Simple switch please. Sean Og and Curran played well in parts, particularly the latter in the second half, but far from marquee performances. I’d still like us to try someone new at center back, Cadogan for example.
-
Midfield, very good, particularly Gardiner, who played a load of ball and was one of Cork’s best players. On the other hand, against a big team like Offaly in heavy conditions in February you’d expect a big lad like Gardiner to excel. I’d still worry about his mobility in this position in August.
-
Center forward line - all replaced, some good things in patches. Niall Mac got two lovely points (didn’t do much else really), Lorcan McLoughlin looked alright when he got the ball, he certainly has the skill at this level but struggled to get himself involved in the game enough, Mark O’Sullivan caught some good ball but didn’t know what to do with it, looked too slow both in the hands and legs at this level but he has a incredible hand, so probably worth giving a few more chances to. Got one great point if I remember correctly.
-
Full forward line was our best line by far imo. Fraggie and Pa Horgan were absolutely flying, two truly talented and classy players putting the ball over the bar from every part of the pitch, well worth the price of attendance alone. Aisake was poor, despite the goal - his first instinct always seems to be to get a foul, or give a handpass, when he did run at the defence his swing is far too wild. Not great in the air. Had a couple of cracks at points but went well wide. Should have done more with the decent amount of ball he got.
-
Subs, Cussen and Cadogan were very good, the former got a great point and was nice and tidy at wing forward. Cian McCarthy, Ray Ryan and Fintan O’Leary didn’t have much to do.
-
Shane Murphy, John Gardiner, Pa Horgan and Fraggie Murphy best for Cork. Molloy and Mahon were decent for Offaly, a team badly lacking natural pace, amongst other things.
-
The bench worries me really. We need to have a competitive squad - with respect, I don’t think Cadogan is going to be worried about Cunningham, nor Curran worried about Aidan Ryan etc. We need players looking over their shoulders, something we haven’t had in years, and frankly, unless we make significant changes to the bench, we won’t have it this year either. Cussen is really the only ‘impact’ player there - personally, I’d prefer to see the likes of Eoin Keane, Luke O’Farrell, Chris Murphy and William Egan in the squad at the expense of Hartnett, Aidan Ryan, Callanan etc.
-
Pitch was heavy and cut up in parts, some very poor picking of the ball throughout the game because of this, lot of one handed crap as well which didn’t help. Lots of little flicking from Cork players, nothing wrong with some more emphasis on ground hurling.
RTE now saying McCrabbe has no broken bones or ligament damage. Maybe he’s just very, very very soft although considering he plays for Craobh Chiaran I doubt that.
Still wouldn’t rule out a cruciate considering they sometimes aren’t diagnosed immediately eg Davoren last year.
McCrabbe wouldn’t be your typical Chiarans player. He is however very skinny. The dunph would eat him in one sitting
McCrabbe limps off in most games.
