Didn’t see why, never got a replay.
Would agree with almost all of that Rocko. Wouldnt have been quite as effusive about Reddan though. He was great defensively but threw out a few loose ones and I would suggest his passing is costing Sexton and the rest of the backs a few seconds. Heaslip I felt was relatively anonomous compared to the other two back rows but I guess when 6 and 7 are not playing strictly to the ‘traditional’ roles they normally play Heaslip was picking up the slack elsewhere.
The front 5 was phenomenal. Cian Healy Rory Best and Mike Ross take a bow. As dominant a performance as you could see in International rugby.
Overall though I am absolutely hopping here. Really delighted for the players, delighted for Kidney. They have put up with huge criticism over the years for failing to perform on the big day, much of it valid to be fair, but this is a huge huge win. 25 years since we won in the SH says it all. Giving ourselves a great chance in the ‘easy’ side of the draw and I cant see NZ not going out to blow France away to be honest, momentum is nearly more important than who you are playing in a tournament like this and NZ wont be afraid of Oz.
Really really great day for Irish rugby and I just hope we capitalise on todays performance.
Boom. Nice win there. At long last my patriotic mug punting pays off.

That’s an obvious jibe at me Puke so I’ll respond with a quote of mine from below which I made after the team was named.
I find Mick Jones’ mentions of our own dan carter very touching on big rugby football days. Almost fatherly in nature. Enjoy today guys.
Well done to ireland. It only matters when it matters.
Well done Ireland.
For a country the size of us with our pick of rugby players, versus the size of a pick that Australia possesses, and to do it in a World Cup is a fantastic achievement and something we should be very proud of.
Ireland has a bigger pick.
Good man Mick, but shocking disrespect of your fellow county man…
I’m sorry Ned, replacing you with crocodile dundee…
Me and Mick go back a long way! Thanks for the sentiment Mick
Just watched setanta analysis there properly. Great stuff. Players, apart from ROG, were unbelievably composed and down to earth. Reflection of the coach. Some coaching performance all the same. Kidney, feel, kiss this is there win as much as the players.
Williams really has a feel for the players and can convey this so much better than the rest.
Think il get up to watch Samoa now.
The dictionary defines superlative as: of the highest kind, quality, or order, surpassing all else, or others. Supreme. I define it as that performance. As a test of character, management, and skill, we were of the highest kind, quality, and order. We should all be rightly proud after it. ITV highlights are great viewing now that I can relax while watching it. We were magnificent up front and it was that and our defence which won it. Rucks, malls and clearing out was fantastic. Australia appeared to go into game with bit of arrogance and not sure they rated us. Word of particular praise for O’Callaghan who I have been critical of before. He was a nuisance. Best gave his best ever performance with superb carrying and excellent in all round play. Front row in general were superb. O’Connell has been fantastic and looks vastly improved after losing bit of weight. Ferris and O’Brien were awesome. If we can keep our key players fit we could go all the way.
Looking ahead how we manage our key players will be important. I think D’arcy’s injury may be a blessing in disguise to be honest though he stood up well today without looking threatening. Tommy Bowe looks to have lost half a yard of pace. I’d play him next week though as think games are doing him the world of good.
Good point. Too many references to themselves. The class clown Hook will be delighted about the publicity. I find him increasingly irritating. Pope is far better but gets dragged down next to him.
Could only watch a bit of the Setanta coverage as didn’t have control of remote but their analysis looks very superior. Is there anyway of watching their coverage online as I don’t have it in my house?
If you have your broadband with eircom Setanta comes free as part of the package. If not you might get lucky on some of the normal sites posted up here.
Unfortunately I don’t. Thanks anyways mac.
spoken like a true rugby follower.
I wouldnt be a rugby fan at all, the game itself was utter muck for long parts, but was pleasantly surprised by the performance by the men in green tonight. Some super performances I thought from the forwards. Not a whole pile behind the scrum to get excited about, bar commitment, but the Aussie pack was demolished. They were a utter rabble tonight and the final score flattered them. They definitely looked from the start as if they had just to show up to win and quickly started bitching with each other when things werent going their way. The Aussie commentary was priceless, they sure as fuck didnt take their beating well at all.
According to the ITV commentator Murray’s try was disallowed due to an offside infringement in the build up to it but never saw a replay of it
What was coverage of game like on ITV chewy? Their highlights package is decent.
