2014 World Cup Italian Fanzone

shameful performance by balotelli

[QUOTE=ā€œIl Bomber Destro, post: 944503, member: 2533ā€]Signing in.

I have now decided that we are going to win it, we are going to repeat our 2006 World Cup. We have the best squad, he have the best coach, we have the strongest mentality.

Oh dear.

Our coach let us down.

Thought you had ā€œthe best coachā€?

Obviously not.

Still sore from yesterday. I wouldnā€™t say this tournament now is dead to me, but without Italy itā€™s a lot less interesting. Prandelli had no excuses really. Putting all his faith in Balotelli back-fired badly. Immobile is still too young & inexperienced. Cassano not long back from injury. I donā€™t rate Rossi. Itā€™s easy to say in hindsight but I think Di Natale should have been brought. We needed goals, he could have provided. Itā€™s really all ifs and buts though.

Itā€™s another two years wasted. Itā€™s so utterly disappointing.

Di Natale should have been nowhere near the tournament, he flopped in Euro 2008, WC 2010 and Euro 2012, he has no bottle for the big occasion. Immobile is decent but heā€™s quite slow and I donā€™t think he is a great asset in a side when we werenā€™t creating many chances. I think we should ditch the wingers/wide attackers, back to either 4-3-1-2 or 3-5-2. We badly need a no.10 but there doesnā€™t seem to be any real candidates coming through as of yet. Going with only two strikers was crazy, Destro and Rossi should have gone and I also think Boriniā€™s pace, energy and dynamism could have given us a lot in this tournament especially when you contrast that with uninterested and pitiful displays from Balotelli. Destro and Borini have superb movement and are both very mobile, Destro in particular has the power and goal scoring instincts as well. Rossi has finishing abilities and sharpness.

We need to gut the squad, Iā€™d like to see the following team for the first qualifier for the Euros.

-----------------------------Gigi

Darmian----------Barzagli-----Chiellini-----------Criscito

-----------Motolivo--------Verratti--------De Rossi

----------------------------Florenzi

-------------------Destro-----------Rossi

Iā€™d have the likes of Borini, El Shaarawy, Sansone, Gabbiadini, Poli, Berardi, De Silvestri, Bonaventura, Baselli all heavily involved. We struggled to create chances this summer and the main reason I feel that happened to be the case was because Balotelli is incapable of being a team player, he wasnā€™t interested in offering an outlet. A Rossi-Destro partnership has plenty of goals, pace, movement and two players who are willing to sacrifice. Florenzi in support of the attack will also give us plenty of energy. A lot of those players like Barzagli and De Rossi are now the wrong side of 30 so they will need to be monitored.

Italy have been lacking that creativity in the final third since Totti left, he was the guy who linked everything together up there and was every bit as vital to Italy as Pirlo was. Cassano did offer us a creative outlet but heā€™s not a natural no.10, there are none out there in Italy now so weā€™ll just have to get on with it. Weā€™ve also lacked a reliable striker ever since Vieri left the scene, Destro is the man to replace him and I believe he will forge a great understanding with Rossi. Italy must return to playing two strikers, itā€™s always been the system that has served us best. It has always made us carry a goal threat.

While i agree Di Natale flopped in 08 and 10, I thought he did ok in Poland 2 years ago - his goal against Spain was one of my goals of the tournament. He certainly did no worse than Immobile or Balotelli this time round, arguably better. I neglected to mention Destro, yes super player, should have gone. Him & Gervinho defined Romaā€™s season and I was surprised Prandelli left him at home. Borini i just donā€™t think scores enough, good work ethic yes and pace, but itā€™s goals thatā€™s been our main problem.

Berardi I love, what a natural goal scorer, he ripped Sampdoria a new one there before Christmas, it was as good a hat trick as youā€™ll see. Did very well in a struggling Sassuolo side, Conte will surely include him in his plans at Juve this season.

I might also include Jorginho at Napoli, who has been a great buy from Verona. Has been capped at u-21 level. A box to box midfielder who played a big role in Veronaā€™s good first half to last season. He chipped in with a few crucial goals at San Paolo too. Definitely worthy of inclusion in the squad for qualifying games.

Pirlo ainā€™t retiring
