Just heard Peter Canavan on with FOTF Ewan MacKenna on The Last Word with Matt Cooper there.
Peter mentioned that Tiernan McCann is steeped in GAA tradition, that his father is from Carrickmore and his mother is from Killyclogher. His grandmother is involved with the Tyrone County Board.
Tiernan also has a steady respectable job, said Peter.
I haven’t a clue what Peter’s Mrs. Bucket-esque statement of Tiernan McCann “true Gael” class credentials has to do with McCann diving, however.
As far as I know there is an eight week ban proposed. Forget about whether or not Brollys claims of illegality are valid
If it enforced and enforced unilaterally, then it might just be the medicine needed to cut it ouy
There is a difference between being stupid and being wrong but there can also be a connection as is the case with you. Your hair-brained opinions are directly linked to your brazen stupidity and ill-conceived arrogance.
I was going to post that I can’t believe what the GAA has done to Tiernan McCann but I predicted it would happen yesterday. Despicable stuff. Padraic Duffy should take his beating.
I was advocating an AFL like tribunal on this board years ago, but did the GAA listen? (I can’t imagine why not).
The GAA has a particular talent for taking simple disciplinary matters that can be easily and quickly dealt with and blowing them up into 15 megaton controversies that rage on for months without end. In particular, where incredibly defensive and mentally unsound people like nordies and Claremen are concerned.
You very rarely get this kind of controversy over here with AFL and NRL. Player commits disciplinary offence during a weekend round. Goes before tribunal following week, like within 2-3 days. Receives suspension / points / is cleared of wrongdoing. Accepts punishment or appeals (in which case punishment will be increased if appeal unsuccessful). Sorted. No one bats an eyelid generally until the business end fo the season when you get one or two instances of some fucker portrayed as being unfairly dealt with and will miss a grand final because of the suits, despite the poor fucker having an appalling disciplinary record and very much deserved it.
I just don’t get how hard the GAA makes this for itself.
It’s now Thursday and no one knows what will happen, there is possibly an eight week ban being proposed, so how long will this process actually take? Meanwhile, the airwaves and the INTERNET is in melt down and the nordies are beside themselves. It should have been dealt with by Wednesday evening (pending an inevitable appeal which could be dealt with on Thurs / Fri). Done, sorted, laughing.
Il Bomber wanted to show his and faith in this team, it was a noble sacrifice and maybe it’s what is fueling the Tyrone team this year - whatever it takes to honour the great man.
That was sludden-esque shit from duffy. The officiating is a continuous fucking joke in gaa. The age, almost uniform vision issues, positioning and general state of the umpires is the keystone cops tip of the iceberg but in most cases these cunts cant decide games. Referees definitely do, basketball is the only other sport i can think of where refs influence the scoreboard as much. Even leaving out the corruption that some of them clearly display how can you expect some unfit wheezing 50 year old to display correct cognitive process after an hour of running around? Youd be wrong to let such an individual drive a car but they are the sole arbiter at the crucial stage of a match. Why not divide the field in three and let the two linesmen, who serve little purpose currently anyway, take a third each. It would eliminate holding by backs immediately with an official beside them creating way more entertaining games. Having officials there to determine purely whose line ball it is is pointless, they get it wrong a huge amount of the time anyway. Remove the ability to score direct from a line ball and the significance of whos ball it was disappears.
The only problem with that is referees who call fouls differently which would no doubt lead to mayhem. McGeeney said at the start of the year that the lack of a clear definition on what a legitimate tackle is is a major problem. Some referees are overly analysis on any sort of contact being a free and others let a lot go.
