Limerick champs next in the bridge I hear
it is not a new club same kit well if you knew hurling. FFS
Ballygunner Vs Tallow in the Waterford final. The Gunners beat Fourmile this evening.
Is Clare hurling so bad that Gilligan is still the best hurler there at 39 years of age?
I would never underestimate 1)the drop in standard from county to club & 2) what intelligence and experience do for you at club level
People often go on about a certain player excelling at senior club being a poor sign of a competition. However its completely different set up to county.
Its largely a disadvantage to have a load of county players. Clubs put in alot of effort now and are together all year nearly. That team play aspect gives those teams an advantage. Teams get used to using the strengths of a Gilligan and its a pattern. One thats very hard to stop if surrounded by other capable players.
Best club players i have seen recently in Cork have all been ex-county men or lads just outside that level like Graham Callinan, James Masters, Kevin Canty, Luke Connolly, Conor O Sullivan etc etc.
Pa Horgan was fairly average the 2 times i have seen him, Kerrigan, Cahalane etc all average enough.
Athleticism is generally what differs between players at club & county. However thats often less important at club where team work and a few scoring forwards are paramount.
Gilligan has been an outstanding club hurler for the bridge for nearly 20 years… He kept the Bridge senior almost single handedly in the latter part of the last decade. He was a very consistent scorer at I/C level but lacked pace to go to the next level a be a real consistent all round threat.
He is extremely strong and is an excellent reader of the game and at club level can win ball whatever way it comes to him.
And thats why he could play into his 40’s if he chooses to. His strengths are attributes you can hold onto for longer.
Martin Comerford was O Loughlins best player yesterday and he’s about 37
A talent crisis in Kilkenny hurling?
Obviously.
Clearly - if Vegas are making the semi finals.
Laois County Final moved to 3 and 5 on Sunday to avoid clash with the big rugby game, outstanding organisation by the Laois County Board.
The Meath County Board went one step further
Meath SFC final put back to avoid rugby clash
11 October 2015
Next Sunday’s scheduled hoganstand.com Meath SFC final has been put back until Bank Holiday Monday, October 26 to avoid a clash with Ireland’s Rugby World Cup quarter-final against Argentina.
The Navan O’Mahony’s v Na Fianna showdown was due to take place this day week, but a decision was taken by Meath county board to postpone it by eight days following Ireland’s victory over France this evening. Gate receipts for last Sunday’s Meath IFC final were well down on normal due to the clash with the Ireland v Italy rugby game and Royal County officials don’t want a repeat of that scenario for their showpiece game.
The JFC final between Dunsany and Curraha will also be played on the October Bank Holiday Monday.
With regards Laois County Final, the Senior sees Portlaoise take on Emo and the Intermediate sees Annanough take on Clonaslee.
Portlaoise going for 9 in a row, and while everyone would love to see Emo do it for their veteran 43 year old legend Mick Lawlor, sadly the fact that a 43 year old Mick Lawlor is playing at all says enough about the way this one will go. Portlaoise at their ease. Tuohy is available, but may or may not be used. He was togged for the semi final against Killeen (a game which was the de facto county final really) but not introduced. He had flown in the day before, and when asked about togging him manager Malachy McNulty is quoted as saying “better to have a gun and not need it, than need a gun and not have one”. They won’t need him Sunday, but he’ll get a run out at some stage I’d imagine.
Fuck knows who’ll win the IFC. Timahoe were the clear favourites all year having Brendan Quigley, Damien O Connor and Eoin Culliton in their ranks, but after blowing up in the final last year, they blew up in the semi final this year against Clonaslee. This could be anyones. Darren Rooney is back with Clonaslee this year, Annanough have lost a lot of finals and semi finals over the past 10 years. I have no idea how this will go.

Monday FFS. Would they not play it the saturday and let the lads enjoy the rest of their weekend.
It’s no wonder rugby is making inroads all over the country when you have a compliant Gahliban bending over backwards to accommodate them.
Cork did the same. Amazing scenes.
If wexford do it I think we can officially say the GAA is saved.
It’s like Italia 90 all over again.
They can both co-exist. But what turns the modern irish person off the gah is trying to fight it like they traditionally would have.
It just makes sense.
Sure 1990 was a ridiculous summer. The Cork-Tipp Munster Final, the soccer, everything.
