No stand out performer but David Burke had a fine game
Donât think Iâve anything to say that hasnât been said already. Galway were the better team and well deserving winners.
And yet the soft second goal, the two Waterford pointed frees after half time from Tuoh(e)y catching it three times and Hanbury picking it off the ground and suddenly Galway found themselves behind despite playing more of the hurling.
Kevin Moranâs miss which would have put Waterford two ahead for the first time was possibly crucial. Immediate response by Niall Burke who made a brilliant contribution off the bench as did Jason Flynn. David Burke finished very strongly too and 4 points from play makes him my MOTM.
McInerney did a superb job on Gleeson but I thought Galwayâs defence overall was a little shaky at times. Daithi Burke wasnât as commanding as in previous games and Pauric Mahony had a great game and got the better of Padhraic Mannion.
Galway had that wider spread of scorers from midfield up though, with most of their forwards contributing well from play along with the substitute attackers. Galwayâs shooting was immense. Some of the points were sublime - I think they had 9 in around 15 minutes before they had a wide. One from Conor Cooney was exceptional.
I also thought Fergal Horgan had a fine game although Aussie and Big Dan were tearing into him at full time. Possibly over a Shane Fives overcarrying call at a crucial time (Canning pointed the free) which prompted Big Derek to pick up a sideline flag and fling it away!
I enjoyed the two games today thoroughly. The two managers seem like sound chaps and I feel very sorry for Big Derek.
David Burke got roasted in the 1st half. Barron was completely on top & Coen was the one trying to contain his area. Shur they put Burke FF for a while.
He definitely improved in the second half but I wouldnât think he had an outstanding day at all.
Iâd argue Joe Canningâs free taking & line ball were very important & that Niall Burke changed the game when introduced getting crucial scores & winning important frees. Either of the 2 above along with McInerney would be my picks.
Every All Ireland winning team there ever was is far better than the Lord Lucans from 2013 mate.
The fact that Canning is carrying a knee injury with an operation scheduled soonâŚhe deserves huge creditâŚhis sideline alone was sublime.
Their spread of players though that can chip in with points from play including subs like Jason Flynn and Niall Burke who arguably shouldâve started was the difference.
Hard luck fagan. Gave it a serious shot and left with heads held high
We go again.
You came across very well on the news afterwards. Only a hint of a yankee twang
He got 4 points from play. He is a cert IMO
Those days are gone
I think chip 2001 run em close personally.
I had a similar enough meeting with my auld lad in that same tunnel. I can only imagine what its like to be involced at that level. Buzz must be off the charts
He hasnt had a great season. V difficult to back up last year when so much attention on him. McGraths biggest failing this season really not putting structure in place to get him into the game more. Completely bypassed him today. Sensational player. Hope the likes of Brick and Moran stick at it no reason they cant compete again next year
Should still get it
It seems they had issues with Donoghue as well
Gleeson reminded me of Ken against Clare in 2002. Just couldnât get into the game.
Not sure thatâs on McGrath really. He was centre forward every game after the Munster semi-final defeat and there was plenty of ball going into his zone. He had some brilliant moments in other games but wasnât at his best.
Ken did seem oddly distracted that day. I was afraid heâd lash out on someone.
