The Shannon has been crossed
It really is
Correct, homecoming should be in Loughrea, the true home of the GAA.
Foundation Meeting
The Gaelic Athletic Association was officiallyâ founded on November 1, 1884 in Hayesâs Hotel, Thurles. It might .have been founded at Loughrea where there was a strong hurling tradition in south-east Galway and where the first set of rules had been written down in 1869. Cusack approached the bishop of Clonfert, Dr. Duggan, about becoming the patron of the new body but, because of his age, declined to act and advised Cusack to ask Dr. Croke, Archbishop of Cashel, âa fine Gael, young, vigorous and energetic.â

What a wonderfully diverse City.
It âmightâ have been founded on the moon for all the difference that article makes
The article was just a quick search. The initial meeting with the Bishop of Clonfert was held in Dunkellin St, Loughrea.
I was about to start a thread on the very same matter, d_k, such was my shock at his pitiful performance.
The man looked lost, uncomfortable, ill at ease, call it what you will. Basically he looked like a fish out of water. I think the man has perhaps been over coached by his public relations gurus. He seemed quite keen to clap at the correct time but you could see he had no notion why or who he was clapping. When he did clap you could see he was just going through the motions, it was contrived, it was phony. In short, it was bullshit. He obviously has no interest in the sport which is fine but I would have thought with all his handlers and his advisors, none of them said to him that the GAA is a mass organisation across the country and if you do not have the confidence of the GAA electorate you will be losing a hell of a lot of votes. Iâm sure tweeting about the colour of a fellaâs socks chimes well with a certain part of the electorate but performing adequately on the Hogan Stand in front of millions of viewers will help him much more when he is electioneering to the plain people of Ireland.
I can only hope that at the crisis meeting that they call today above in the Taoiseachâs office that one of his media boffins comes up with that old trick of placing a number of people in the crowd for the next match he attends so that Leo can give them the thumbs up / nod / wave / smile etc. so it at least looks like he has some clue of what is going on or, heaven forbid, even enjoying the day.
Hello there
a âhistoricâ this moment?
Christ, another GGA zealot returns
Good afternoon, Lazarus.
Afternoons donât come much better. Your return has been the icing on the cake
Guilty as charged, The_Selfish_Giant.
Can you recall what your handle was c.2011? Iâve absolutely no idea who anybody is any more. My psychiatrist says thatâs progress but it certainly takes the edge off internet banter.
I feel really disgusted that our Taoiseach ruined my enjoyment of Galwayâs assent up the steps of the Hogan Stand. After gettting that off my chest however Iâd like to now express sincere congratulations to the Galway fans on this forum.
Why does this matter? He has to be there, he doesnât care for the game, his constituents wonât even know there was a game on.
Sorry, not ringing a bell. I thought you might have been an internet colossus like Flano or that fella from Fingal. Not to worry, Iâm sure we can develop some sort of mutual loathing going forward though.
NCC
His constituents wonât care but he is no longer simply a TD for his constituents, heâs leading the country. As one of the plain people of Ireland I was not convinced by him yesterday and I remain to be convinced that he understands me or who I am, or where weâve come from or whatâs best for this country.
He has in short lost me.
He knows well
