Anything could happen, but talk of Waterfordâs form is overstated. They havenât beaten Tipperary in the last two years, beat a knackered Kilkenny team and only won against Cork when a man was sent off.
KK werenât far off the 7th best team in the country this year.
Ah sure look, itâll be a day out for me anyway. Iâll see lots of local celebs and prominent business people and hopefully at some stage Iâll get a chance to chant What a Fud.
Season
Tea, coffee, buns, cakes and speeches on the corporate banking floor yesterday afternoon to wish Stephen OâKeeffe well. Christ, did nobody in Bank of Ireland read Jackie Tyrrellâs column a week or two ago? Leave the chap in peace to get ready for the match. I hope he doesnât let in a soft one tomorrow now.
It really is a 50/50 game for me Amby and youâre right they havenât beaten Tipp since 2008 and have been beaten in Championship six times since by them, but thatâs neither here nor there. I donât want to be blunt or hurtful to Galway supporters but the truth is so I may as well say it I can see Galway bottling it, a little like Limerick, chokers. Waterford appear to me not to have that problem, they donât choke. On this logic Iâll give it to Waterford between 1-3 points. You can refer to the 2008 final all you like but that was a freak day.
What paper carried Tom Ryanâs interview, chaps?
The Tervoe Sun-Times.
Galway have all the experience here⌠They out hurled KK two years ago and took their foot off the gas second half thinking they had all the hard work done⌠A very valuable lesson and one that will see them give a 70 minute performance. Whether thatâs good enough is another thing.
Took their foot off the gas?!
Bar Conor Whelan they shat it in the second half.
Someone might post it up thereâŚTom Ryan interview⌠Iâll try read it between trying on suits.
Iâm being nice bro⌠I upset you and applecrumbled lately so Iâm trying to be a better man.
Another thing is the Championship head to head between these two. Waterford never beaten. That has a serious psychological affect on a team.
Waterford always struggled against Tipp. Michael O Donnoghue was part of the Tipp backroom team and would have seen and helped devise plans to counteract Waterfords defensive system. They will crowd the sweeper and have their corner forwards Whelan and Cooney feasting on the breaks.
I expect them to play the inverted T alright (cc @Malarkey), thus crowding the centre around D and lorrying a load of high balls down into that area. Please God that caveman, route 1 type hurling which calls Marouane Fellaini to mind wonât prevail tomorrow.
That cork team is not the best people over rated them
Having Glynn in full forward will keep Waterford even more honest. He is a massive mismatch in full forward against one of the worst full backs of all the top 8 teams in the country. Only nobody knows that yet because of protection he is afforded. Coughlan never plays the ball. His function is just to get his arse, hip etc in the way to allow ball to filter past him to enable someone like De Burca and Fives win it. He did the same against Cork where Fives caught 3 or 4 uncontested balls. Galway have seen this and acted accordingly. Glynn wont allow this to happen and will occupy 2 markers whilst still being able to win primary possession. This will be the winning and losing of the game for either side. By putting Glynn edge of the square Waterford are already conceding more space to Galway forwards.
The worst full back in the country is surely that overweight fella from Limerick?
As opposed to your cunning analysis
Hey pal, we outhurled Kilkenny this year and took our foot off the pedal when we had the hard work done as well. What do you make of that?
