When this match was initiated 15 years or so ago, New York opted out of the qualifiers due to players fearing they wouldnât get back into the US after playing in Ireland.
I donât see why the circumstances would be much different now if they win and have to play in Ireland. Theyâd likely be worse, especially under Mr. Trump.
The match is basically played annually under the assumption that New York will lose. If they win it sort of defeats the whole purpose, which is a big piss up for everybody, no doubt.
