2017 All Ireland Senior Football Championship

young fella making his championship debut for kerry today…

I don’t know who but the word was some young players were applying serious pressure in training etc.

Paul galvin gone fierce ould looking

They are 19-22. Its Kerry. There is around 40 older fellas ahead of them when they start. Its not easy break in. Much like Killkenny they really want fellas to earn their corn.

Dublin have had plenty of young lads break in at much younger ages.

You look at Fenton, Kilkenny, McCaffrey, Mannion, Costello and O’Callaghan in the past few years. Lowndes and Byrne have also seen a reasonable amount of Championship action.

Are Barry and Savage the only lads under the age of 24 to see some Championship action this year for Kerry?

I would say all those bar Costello are better than anything Kerry produced. Only Mark O’Connor is that level. Obviously he is in Oz

They were very good Kerry “teams”. Anybody involved in the game down there is not getting as carried away as the ordinary supporter or outsiders.
They are quite undecided about the individuals.

The other thing i am saying is its a culture thing. Its not like i completely agree with their approach.

Fenton, Killkenny and O’Callaghan are 3 of the most exceptional gifted young players i think i can remember.

Physically as well though they were much more ready and developed than Kerry lads. There is still a lagging S&C culture in Kerry, that does not help

Came out recently with the u17 rules. Second year minor can play senior at club level only.

Still strange though, Kerry have massive problems in their full back line, they have real issues with pace and mobility around the middle of the pitch.

Mayo have had the likes of Diarmuid O’Connor and Patrick Durcan as starters in the middle are of the pitch for the past two years and they are about 22/23 and they have excelled.

Tyrone have a 19 year old starting at wing forward tomorrow.

I find it odd that with the pronounced problems Kerry have at the moment they have not brought more fresh blood in.

Will Fitzmaurice go if they exit today?

Barry for Maher and O’Sullivan for O’Donoghue.

Kerry bringing in an extra defender.

Tom O’Sullivan starts.

cc @caoimhaoin

Gone for more mobility and defensive protection obviously.

Jonathan Lyne in too.

RTÉ all over the place here. Keep changing their mind about the changes.

Sky coverage is top notch. Lovely use of “flaked” by interviewer.

Dessie Dolan is a very happy-go-lucky chap.

Lyne for Griffin.

Morely or Enright to 3?

No i think he is agreed for next year as well.

Kerry have brought in tom sullivan as we speak.

Canavan had some good “touchscreen” analysis on the Mayo kick-out earlier but the likes of Connell and Horan are boring fuckers.

Ya. Forced hand though.

And the right call too

I think there’s a hint of desperation from Fitzmaurice in these changes.
