2017 GAA National Football League (AKA Kerry's stroll to yet more silverware)

When a player says he doesn’t want to take it you do not let him take it.

Anyway, Cork are shit. The rest of it is irrelivant now and the past. There is no sign of anyone realising whats needed.

What’s needed? More excuses maybe?

Tyrone have been a kick of a ball away from an All-Ireland final in the last two years. With 14 men, they were one point away from Mayo, who lost the All-Ireland by one point in a replay. They’ve also got five more scores over five meetings against Jim Gavin-managed Dublin teams since 2013.

Tyrone’s forwards won them the Ulster final against Donegal with magnificent scores during the key last 10-12 minutes of the game. They have pace throughout the team and also have an excellent spread of players with scoring ability.

And crucially, they have both the system of play and the the sort of dogged, defiant attitude and the self-belief which is needed to beat Dublin - exactly the sort of attitude Cork lack.

They won’t be far away.

We don’t lack runners and penetration from deep, guys like Meyler, McCann, Sludden and Harte are as good as you’ll find anywhere in the country in this regard.

We lack a reliable free taker and a ball winning full forward but apart from that I’m pretty happy.

Ooooft.

Some cracking scores in the Meath v Galway game yesterday.

Teams have won the All-Ireland before without having a top class forward line. Offaly bar Matt Connor in 1982, Derry in 1993, Dublin in 1995 hardly had a stellar forward line either. Cork in 2010 relied heavily on frees and placed balls in both their semi-final and final victories, where they were comfortably outscored from play. Mayo haven’t won an All-Ireland but are consistently there or thereabouts and have consistently taken out other top teams, including Dublin, without a top class forward line.

Interesting that Donnelly was tried in the full forward line the last day out.

I think he is too important for us to be left there as in the modern game the game can pass you by pretty easily but he does offer a powerful presence in that and he has an absolute rocket of a finish on him so could be worth persevering with and alternate with Cavanagh in this role.

McClure has been superb this year in midfield so it lessens the need for Donnelly in that role.

Frank Burns was excellent at the weekend to and will be another one pushing hard for a spot.

Ah ffs I was looking forward to some decent discussion on the weekends GAA when I clicked in here. Cunts

Ulster championship? So what. B grade in overall scheme of things.

The Ulster championship matters, mate. And Tyrone’s forwards dug it out for them against Ireland’s most feared defensive system.

Tyrone are live contenders this year.

Games gone man, games gone

The gga crowd never shut up about how professional they are. Twee simpletons

I think he’s pointing out that the GGA is unsustainable in its current structure. It took them long enough, but finally players are copping on that why would you bother your hole giving up so much time to play, what should be a hobby, when the odds are indeterminably stacked against the bones of 26 of the 32 counties playing it.

Poor Offaly with their population of 75k.

Monaghan has a population of 60k.

Fermanagh has a population of 61k and nearly half of them watched Blue Peter, call “Danny Boy” “the London Derriere” and say “Mum”.

Offaly are a dual county, so thats the Monaghan thing boxed off you’d imagine. Fermanagh aren’t exactly setting the world alight either, they’re in the 26.

Fair fucks to Monaghan nonetheless.

It is getting fucking tiring. Nobody forces any of them to play.

As for the professional set up shite Roger Bannister broke 4 minute mile running on a cinder track training while working as a doctor. If people want it badly enough they find a way.

Did you read it? He’s not playing. He’s merely trying to explain that the likes of Offaly are at nothing. The players have been taking it in the ear for the past 24 hours on “de social meeja”. Granted a 30 point defeat to the likes of Armagh is abhorrent, but still. As for Roger, at least the playing field was a little more level in his discipline.

Has the Boundary Commission swapped them with Monaghan?

Fermanagh are at least consistently competitive relative to their population, and they have been since the late 90s.

Which is a lot more than you can say for Offaly.

Offaly beat Longford last summer. Longford then beat Monaghan. Monaghan beat Kerry last week. Kerry are the last team to beat Dublin.

Now clearly I’m not saying Offaly should be beating Dublin, but I’d consider getting spanked by 30 points by Armagh to be an abject effort if it was a minor club team playing them.

Everybody knows what the standard is these days and the bar isn’t going to be lowered. Either accept that and strive to try and meet that bar, or don’t bother. If you don’t want to bother, nobody will think any less of you, it’s a free society and nobody forces you to play and all that, but the fact is Offaly as a county aren’t near meeting the bar of preparation in either football or hurling and they don’t seem that bothered by that.

Maybe it’s time to rename them “the Faithless County” and play “Insomnia” every time they come onto the pitch.
