1983 Coughan
1984 Treacy
1985 McGuigan
1987 Roche
1988 Stuttgart
Any lads not around to see that missed out on a nation taking her place on the world sporting stage.
Rugby really doesn’t fit in there.

It most certainly does, the triple crown in 85 was perhaps the greatest achievement of them all
What was the story with the Oirish trying to tackle North above the waste?. .he steamrolled 3 of them on seperate occasions…that Welsh scrum half looked very dynamic…but can he do box kick like conor murray though?..
It was twee. Parochial.
Rugby was the bread and butter mate . The other were events .
Triple crown wins of 1982 and 85 were huge. Stuttgart 1988 was for social welfare/criminal legal aid recipient/pretend IRA types. Hard to have much connection with a team of bangers even if you were a soccer type. 7 of the starting 11 in Stuttgart were from England and Scotland.
Stuttgart was one of the worst ever performances by the 26 County soccer team . England should have one by 5 and that England team were awful in that tournament.
Barry McGuigan and the triple crown in 1985 were the seminal sporting moments of the 1980’s, they united the country at a difficult time politicly and economically, as a nation, we dared to dream, and even as a 8 year old I was blown away by it all
Stuttgart in 1988 is laughable, was there even more than one Irish born player on that team?
All great moments in irish sporting history but those triple crowns seemed to mean something as well at the time, still I’d rate them below all your list.
Ciaran Fitz “where’s your fucking pride” was the iconic moment of the 80’s in Irish sport, a call to arms, an awakening
Sad that the 2-0 away series win against Australia in 1979 doesn’t warrant mention by you.
But then again not alot of rugby fans know that.

Yes, I’m old enough to remember the dropping of Tony Ward. Australia weren’t much of a force, even as recently as 1979. The Grand Slam tour of the British Isles in 1984 with Mark Ella and young turks Nick Farr Jones, Michael Lynagh and David Campese marked the real emergence of Australia as a modern day force.
you have a tremendous knowledge of the game
Where are the Irish creatine brigade in the current table?
I had a serious sing song last night celebratibg Ireland’s loss with a load of Welsh lads and a few jocks staying at the hotel… A great night. Nothing like seeing the Irish rugby crowd humiliated. I’m going on the beer again to celebrate .
Unionists have taken a right battering in recent weeks. First the Assembly Election Results and now this.
The rugby equivalent of the English Soccer Team for underperforming/shitting themselves when it matters with all the bullshit media hype to go with it as well. A pack of cunts one and all.
Glasgow Celtic are flying it domestically in Scotland though.
I don’t support Glasgow Celtic FC at all mate, I couldn’t tell you how they are going.
Dry your eyes mate, the Irelands Call Brigade can always look back on those magical challenge match results in the winter time for comfort. 4th best out of the 6 teams in Europe who play the game, Rugby Country indeed

Enjoy your trip mate.
