Well I think blanket defences are neccessary rather than lads sprinting down the pitches for goals. Blanket defences do require the opposition to think a bit more.

Graeme Souness when he was Glasgow Rangers manager was a pioneer for narrowing the pitch. Did it regularly for European Cup games at Ibrox.

One of the pundits on The Sunday Game needs to highlight what Kevin McStay has done there and push for a suspension. Somebody like, oh, Kevin McStay.

He’s leaving Roscommon after this season anyway and he’ll hardly want to bother managing them to a 39 point thrashing by Dublin next week.

The most obvious thing to take from that first half is that it’s obvious neither McStay or the Roscommon goalkeeper watched Donegal v Down, because the goalkeeper is doing the exact same thing the Down goalkeeper did that day in that he’s floating every kickout long and Donegal are gathering them with absolute ease.

I thought there might have been a kick in Roscommon today but another 20 point defeat looks a live possibility - Donegal will want to run the score up as high as possible.

Roscommon wanted to take a quick free there, but the referee wouldn’t let them. Instead he holds up the game for 30 seconds while he gets out his notebook to book Hugh McFadden.

Not allowing quick frees is a cancer on refereeing.
