Raymond van Barneveld on 2003 or 2005 form would have walked that match 5-0.
He threw it away. That penultimate leg was a catastrophe. Even in the final leg van Gerwen opened the door but Barney sulked and accepted his fate.
That was a great match. Barney lost nothing in defeat, he showed massive bottle in that match.

Yeah Barney had to beat such greats as Martin " the bottler" Adams in 2005. Terrific standard.
Martin Adams is one of the greatest players in the history of the sport, mate, as well as being universally admired for his good humour, sportsmanship and all round class as a person.
You might be interested to know that Gary Anderson was Barney’s first round victim in 2005 on a 3-0 scoreline, one of many such first round exits for Anderson at Lakeside.
But he finds the going a lot easier at the Ally Pally.
The Power makes his way to the oche for possibly the last ever time as a pro.
Barney lost nothing in defeat other than a Semi Final which he was in poll position for with 6 darts at 89 in the 3rd leg of the final set.

Gary Anderson has started very poorly here.
One wonders whether he’ll be able to show anything like the fight shown by the great Bobby George in his famous 1994 World Championship semi-final victory over Magnus Caris, when the legendary lord of George Hall played with a broken back but managed to overcome the pain, the odds and a 4-2 deficit to win 5-4 in one of the most astonishing matches ever seen in the sport.
But that was on the greatest stage in world darts, where players will happily play through the barrier of the most extreme pain. This isn’t.
