A facile victory for Anderson.
Jeff failed to qualify for Lakeside and decided to enter the pdc event as a fall back option. But you could see his heart just wasnât in it tonight and that heâs still thinking what might have been.
Itâs a bit like Italy failing to qualify for the World Cup, entering the US Cup instead, and turning in a half-hearted, disinterested performance while enviously watching the goings on at the greatest show on earth.
Gary Anderson played well, but itâs one thing doing it in a friendly, and quite another doing it in proper, competitive action, as heâs found out to his cost so many times in the past.
Smith has proved in the past that he can do it on the big stage, Anderson hasnât.
The pdc and racism go hand in hand.
It seems itâs not just acceptable to wear blackface at the Alexandra Palace, itâs actively encouraged.
Will we be seeing people dressing up as âgolliwogsâ from the Enid Blyton âNoddyâ books, next? Perhaps some KKK hoods?

Itâs obvious that there is a problem with the English underclass that go to these events. I thought this type of nonsense died with the late Martin Fitzmaurice, unfortunately it hasnât.

Contrast the friendly, convivial and respectful family atmosphere of Lakeside with the drunken idiocy of the Ally Pally.
Lakeside is like a packed Mulliganâs, Palace Bar or Kehoeâs at 8pm on a Saturday night.
The Ally Pally is like a giant version of Chasers nightclub in Slough that featured in The Office, except there are no women, because they know whatâs likely to happen to them if they attend.
There was nothing friendly or convivial about the time Marty McCloskeyâs game was stopped at the Lakeside.
He was subjected to the most appalling anti-Irish abuse ever witnessed at a British sporting venue by the baying BDO mob.

Contrast that to the disgusting abuse the pdc boo boys meted out to William OâConnor the other night. Mick McGowan was also a regular target when he played at the Circus Tavern and Alexandra Palace.

The game was actually stopped and some scumbag was thrown out, thatâs how bad it got.

On the rare occasions there has ever been unpleasant scenes at BDO events, itâs always been subsequently proved that it came from pdc agent provocateur plants.
Itâs incredible that Barry Hearn goes to such lengths to discredit the superior rival organisation.

My primary memory of the Foxâs Lakeside appearance is how his and Daryl Gurneyâs families sat together cheering both the boys on as they played their last 16 clashes one after the other.
Wonderful cross-border, all-island camaraderie.
Sadly Gurney retired from darts shortly afterwards.
