2020 All Ireland Senior Football Championship.Blame the dubs

What year did Galway make an all Ireland final?

Ah jaysus I’ve only gone and misremembered the 2018 semi as the final.

Was that their only appearance in an all Ireland semi over the last ten years or so?

You confused them with mayo.

It happens, when you get passed shannon they all look and sound and smell the same, until you get about half way up sligo and things get considerably worse

I don’t know, was it? At the very least that appearance along with a few Connacht titles makes them competitive by comparison with the field.

He couldn’t kick the ball FFS. A complete and utter donkey.

Kerry are the only team that can come close to beating dublin, and they aren’t that close as the ideal conditions of the drawn final might not materialize again.even with them over the last ten minutes of the game and with 14 men dublins fitness and preparation kicked in and they destroyed them really. What is the point of the leinster championship now, see who wins through for a drubbing? Game is slowly dying.

They left about 2-2 behind them in the drawn final in the first 15 minutes.

Always came across as a decent bloke but I don’t think counihan did a great job.there was way more in them… He needed to develop a plan B instead of Big men round the middle catching ball and running through lads or wing backs tearing upfield and taking pot shots … There was some quality forwards there that he never maximised as a unit. o Connor, Kelly, colm o Neil, Goulding, sheehan etc… Kerry in 2009 just sat back in second half and conceded a lot of ball to Cork around midfield knowing Cork had no forward gameplan and were reduced to potshots form out the field . In 2010 Cork stumbled to all ireland final win where the man of the match was awarded to the free taker…

They beat Dublin in the semi with 2010, with Bernard Brogan off the charts in terms of performance.

Although Dublin did implode somewhat.

Dublin’s problem was they only had Brogan and o’gara to a lesser extent up front. And Ross McConnell’s brain fart.

Would Connolly have been playing back then?

I think his overall contribution to Dublin is overstated - he has been better in more recent years. An incredibly gifted footballer undoubtedly though.

Really believe if keaney had started that game dusb would have won

Connolly was thrown off the panel in 2010 by Gilroy for fuck acting on a training camp in Spain. Came back into it in 2011.

Gilroy knew

Some of the stuff I’ve seen him do at club level would blow you away. Probably didn’t have the same licence to a certain extent under Gavin although still showed plenty of glimpses

I was at the club final where Vincent’s played Castlebar.

They were within a missed penalty in the 18 semi of coming closer than anyone to knocking Dublin off their perch. Injuries and a stubborn Walsh made last year a non starter. The strong suspicion is KW was not making the most of the resources available to him because of the stilted style he enforced. They have the greatest forward of our lifetime running the show now. The stars are aligning

Don’t get me wrong, I would be happy to see Galway compete and be a force in the super 8s and football needs a few more consistent challengers to emerge. Here’s hoping it happens but I feel that the narrative that now that Walsh is gone that the handbreak will be off and they will be a side transformed this year.

I still think they are shy a bit of quality to make an A/I semi final with the new format.

They will need luck with injuries as they wouldn’t have near the depth of Dublin. No one does. Ideally PJ would have had another year under his belt with the U-20s. There will be a much larger emphasis on the Corofin approach then there has been and the earlier club final date will facilitate this no end. They won the FBD without breaking a sweat, granted no one they beat broke much of a sweat in losing, but it’s the positive start they needed.

I was a defender of KW for the most part but if ever a team needed a fresh lease of life it was the Galway footballers
