Argentina used a routine a few minutes ago to get Messi on the ball when he had been very quiet. They were cautiously knocking it around in a triangle between left centre back, left back and left midfield. Meanwhile, Paredes not involved in the play was ushering Molina forward on the right hand side. But Molina ran an inside/inverted line and took up position around 35 yards out in line with the edge of the box. Messi simultaneously drifted out to the right touchline. The ball was worked over to Paredes and he fizzed a low ball to Molina who had his back to goal. Messi came off the line from behind Molina, looped around him and took a little lay off in stride to drive towards the box. Paredes was Redmond Barry. Molina was PJ Banville and Messi was Mattie Forde.
I digress. How can Maloney not figure out what’s happened here? He’s so bad.
