These competitions getting the recognition they deserve nowadays. Laois put out a team on Saturday with 10 lads who only turned up for their first county training session on Tuesday evening prior to it. Donegal had a blow out at the weekend over Monaghan who had a similar type rookie outfit out.

If the January/February version of Jack O’Connor could be transported into April/May/June then Wexford would have an unreal good player on their hands. Some man to perform in these winter conditions.

He’s like a horse that prefers going clockwise or something too. In a February league game when he plays right half forward, he’ll catch around 4 puck outs in a half when he’s on the stand side & we’re shooting into the Pineridge End. But when he’s on the open side & we’re shooting into the Clonard End, he can’t judge the flight of the ball & is usually ineffective. Play into the Pineridge End in the first half & he can be taken off after 50 minutes to a rapturous ovation having caused wreck in the first half. Play the other way & he might be substituted at half time. It’s a modern day winter hurling mystery to me.
I remember him absolutely destroying a few wing backs under the stand alright. In fairness today it looked like a lot of other lads did the donkey work and just found him in space. It’s all positive either way. Looked like Cian Byrne and Corey Byrne Dunbar had what Ger Canning would call industrious games
