There is. That’s why McAleese had to step down. MDH said he’d only stay for one term but got his snout stuck in the trough and went again.

It’s not easy.
To be fair to him, I think Higgins said the run of centenaries was the reason he stayed, and he had a good input on them after the government got off to a pretty shit start on them.
Funnily enough the Presidential gig flies in the face of the saying about it being difficult to get to the top and more difficult to stay there. Apparently when you get to the Áras it’s like getting a prestigious GAA committee gig and dropping anchor upon arrival.

Sinn Féin appear to realise that the good ship Chukky-ar-law has sailed. Mary Lou May not have the energy or passion for a campaign but they’re taking their time with a decision.
I suppose Kwasi would be their candidate but Carthy would be an interesting choice. I can see him in the debates screeching and talking everybody down as he drowns in bullshit.

Carthy entering the race would be good for Connolly as he’s such a dislikeable twerp. He’d effectively function as a mudguard for her and make her look like the sensible left candidate, as well as transferring well to her.
