English clubs have a fairly appalling recent record in Champions League finals. They have now lost 6 of the last 8 finals and the two wins in those finals came by a system @GeoffreyBoycott deems a lottery.
Indeed you have to go back to Man Utd’s 1999 triumph for the last time an English side won a CL that wasn’t decided by a system @GeoffreyBoycott deems a lottery.
I love how you pick stats. You start immediately after a long period of English dominance and are including years they were banned from playing in Europe?
An Italian mocking English clubs for losing European Cup finals. English clubs have lifted the European Cup on 12 occasions and have had the losing finalist on 8 occasions out of 20 final appearances. That’s a 60% success rate.
Italian clubs have lost a whopping 16 times in European Cup finals. That’s twice as many as English clubs. Italian clubs have won it 12 times, the same number as English clubs. There’s nobody like the Italians to fill the togs in a European Cup final.
Wow, that’s a really ignorant post. You’re still glossing over the question being posed to you. English clubs have only won 4 EC/CL titles in 34 years, 3 of those have been by a method which you have been on record numerous times as a lottery system.
Now rather than diverting attention away about other things, can you please address the fact that 4 titles in the past 34 years is appalling, 3 of which you concede, were by a lottery system. English teams used have a very good record in EC/CL finals, they’ve now lost 7 of the last 11. 3 of the ones they have won have been by a lottery system (your words, not mine). Despite all the money in the English game their recent record is appalling, Liverpool were the first English finalists in 7 years.
For once address the questions posed and stop deflecting.
I’ve made a 100% factually correct observation that Italian sides have lost a record breaking 16 times in finals and you have called it an ignorant observation. What are you taking issue with? Are you saying that 16 is not the number?
The modern era is an era of Spanish or more specifically Real Madrid and Barcelona dominance. Since we had that unusual Portuguese/French or Monaco pairing in the 2004 final, the Spanish pairing have dominated. Both have appeared in the final four times each, winning all 8 of those finals. They have possibly the best two players to ever play the game in Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
In that timeframe, as I’ve said the Spanish pairing have lifted the trophy 8 times, English clubs have done so three time, (Liverpool 2005, Man U 2008 and Chelsea 2012), Italian clubs twice (Milan 2007 & Internazionale 2010) and Bayern Munich for Germany once in the All German final of 2013. In terms of final appearances in that period it’s Spain 10, England 9, Italy 5, Germany 4.
England is the second strongest when it comes to European football in the modern era, a fact that is borne out by number of times they have lifted the trophy, final appearances and by the UEFA co-efficient.
Of the lost finals you cited, 4 of those were lost to either Barcelona or Madrid, Man U faced Chelsea in the 2008 final. The point is possibly lost on you but if you have two English sides in the same final, one is going to go home without the Cup. Liverpool then lost somewhat unluckily to Milan in 2007, a reverse of what happened in 2005 when Milan were the better side but Liverpool went home with the Cup.
A big spiel about anything other than the issues posed to you.
English teams have a pathetic recent record in EC/CL cup finals. They have won just 4 in 35 years and 4 of their last 11. 3 of those 4 wins were by a method which you attest to being a lottery system.
Now either address this issue or fuck off.
The three times you mention English sides winning there have been by a system which you fervently claim is a lottery (Liverpool 2005, Man U 2008 and Chelsea 2012) - what have you got to say about that?
Correcting your glaring factual inaccuracies is now deflection! You’re very tired and emotional at this stage after the week you’ve had. Go away and have a lie down or maybe even take a break from it all from a few days. You could even use that time to familiarise yourself with the basic facts before you return to the debate.
I’m off out now for the day. You should really find a hobby other than watching sport on TV all day every day and internetting.
More deflection from the fact that you deem English clubs to have won only 1 CL title in 34 years that was not as a result of a lottery system. Your deflection it it says it all.
You’ve been utterly destroyed, I’m sure the Murderpool fraternity will weigh in behind your such is their rage.
