Iād say most victims feel a lot better in their coffins knowing their killers was mentally ill as opposed to being a cold blooded murderer.
Look there is absolutely no defending what that man did , he went out of his way and put together an intricate plan to murder his 2 kids and then kill himself.
I would say, from what Iāve read, that he slowly mentally lapsed into having a psychotic episode. Same as this Cork fella. A cold blooded murderer for me is someone who calculatedly kills another and then appears to be normal afterwards. Joe OāReilly or someone like that.
What would it take for a father to kill his two kids and then himself? Something so dark most of us here could hardly comprehend it, I imagine. Dismissing him as a cunt or a killer is a far too simplistic way of looking at it.
Never even approached defending what he did, who would defend killing children?!
I wasnāt referring to you really I was referring to insanity as a defence , which you mentioned.
Ah Thraw come off it now, you canāt dismiss him as a killer now? Bloody hell , thatās a lot of whatās going wrong in this world now, feeling sorry for these lads. Sort of makes it slightly more acceptable.
you dont know that tho RTT, it could have been entirely sporadic , he was very ill
anyway, these threads are of no value to the forum except to be used as a soapbox for the self righteous bunch led by farmer and appendage to cast judgement on other peopleās lives and use the misfortune of others as a points scoring excercise with their " i know more suicide victims than you " type of shitā¦
Look, itās there and thereās a reason itās there. It wonāt ever justify what the person did but there can be cases where they had no control over what they did.
- What we have gone on to has nothing to do with suicide but murder.
- Did you read up on what this lad in cork did?
He had a plan in mind alright.
Someone who lost the plot. Itās not acceptable, of course. But this society is fucked up. And his wife obviously doesnāt consider him to be a pure evil prick so why should you? Things are often not black and white.

Some people on here are complete and utter simpletons and thatās being kind.
Long story short is that the children were murdered and the father committed suicide. We can but speculate as to his state of mind when he killed the children.
What a bizarrely irrelevant post.
Agreeing with the first few replies on this thread - this would seem to me to be too big a barrier to treating depression and would likely cause more harm than good.
Without wanting to sound too dismissive of help the State can and should provide, there is precious little the State can do to prevent a parent from killing his/her children. Cases like this have seemed more prevalent in recent years but while we can all be interested in the welfare of children (and all the expected improvements from the referendum), as a society we give custody of children to their parents except under extreme circumstances. Depression is not an extreme circumstance.
it is actually, if the childrenās welfare is at risk due to the depression (or other mental impairment), then the HSE can, and have, go for care orders
Iāve no idea what point you think I made but depression alone is not cause enough for a care order. And obviously shouldnāt be. Not even you would argue that.
i knew the guy, not that it has anything remotely to do with it or what happened but i know what he did and it is impossible to say it was premeditated
its the knock on effects of depression i.e neglect of the children, risk of harm etc but the root of it is depression and yes in those circumstances they can go for care orders
why would we want to go around speculating about such things?
