A thread to keep abreast of curses in the GAA

@Mac mentioned not going to Thurles til the curse is lifted. There are so many, I can’t keep track. There’s the mayo one about tog filling til the last member of the last side to win it died as, I think, they were cursed by a priest for dissing a funeral.
There s summat to do with biddy early.
Galway were cursed by someone until they won football and hurling in quick succession, and then they weren’t.
My head is full.

I recall Wexford winning 2 games in Thurles in the last 20 years. League 2 final vs Clare. And 2002 vs Dublin.

Actually, make that 3 cos we might have beaten Galway in U21 semi final 2 years ago.

Outside of that I just associate it with misery, and bad hurling results too, either at u21 or senior.

2015 - U21 final vs Limerick
2014 - Senior embarrassment vs Limerick, U21 final vs Clare
2013 - U21 vs Antrim
2012 - Footballers lost a stupid game vs Tipp. Cork hammered the hurlers.

My short term memory doesn’t extend back prior to this. There was the game against Waterford too back in 2008 or 2009 we should have won.

I’m sure there’s others. In short, Thurles is a graveyard

Edit - were those drawn league finals in 1993 also in Thurles? Fairly sure there were. Fuckin Pat Hartnett.

2001 u21 final.

Pat Hartnett is going to have to go in the things that are mentioned more often on TFK thread, what did he do now??
Liam Dunne (or @Bandage) will have to get his mickey out and piss on the corner flags.

That same day against Waterford, we also lost a minor game despite having 2 extra men. Liam Dunne and Tom Dempsey in charge.

He fouled / rugby tackled Martin Storey when clean through on goal (from 60 yards) in injury time. John O Connor then missed the free and it ended a draw

That was a pure dive. Storey was under pressure had he got past him so took the easy option and flopped and got a handy free that should have been scored.

There was a Delaney curse in Laois once upon a time. Can’t remember the details of it exactly, but the outcome was basically that Laois would never win another final as long as there was a Delaney on the team. Thought to be broken in 1996 when Martin Delaney captained Laois to Minor and Leinster All Ireland’s with Owen Delaney wing forward, but then pointed out that it was on the Senior team. Then broken finally in '03 when Damien Delaney was on the Laois team that won the Leinster.

Hartnett grabbed him by the legs didn’t he? Have you a clip of it we can argue over?

Do ye think this Wexford curse could have anything to do with Wexford not being very good at hurling?

Not at all. We’ve won similar type games in Nolan Park and Croke Park, but never in Thurles

No, went looking for it alright to prove I am right.

Sure it would be better if we argue over it without any conclusive facts or evidence. Sure its not fun to argue if there is clear proof of something.

I am nearly sure I remember Storey just throwing his hands out and flailing to the ground. From what I remember, he could have kept going if he really wanted but chose to take the free, which was close to the 45 and slightly to the new stand side of the ground, but still fairly central.

found it there:

Yeah his legs were whipped from him alright, no dive, couldnt have kept going.

See, it would have been better if we had no video.

Apology accepted. Hartnett was a fair oul mullocker

That was a wonderfully discrete little fist pump he managed there too.

Dungeon

:scream:

There is a whisper around Limerick about a curse. That Limerick will never win an All Ireland again unless all players are a size 34 waist shorts or under…

I believe the curse of the 7 day turnaround struck again today :disappointed:

The “breast” in the title has nothing to do southern fried chicken breasts.

That’s not a curse, it’s a fact.
