Aberdeen v Celtic

Scott Brown ball watching like an u12

Griffiths unlucky there. Good effort.

Didn’t look confident hitting it at all

Boyata giving it away again.

Terrific scenes at Pittodrie. Thoroughly deserved win. Aberdeen are the team to beat this season.

That was fairly brutal.

Serious questions about our defence and what lessons Ronny has learned. We don’t have good defenders but we can still be far more organised than that. Getting beaten in the air is one thing, allowing them half a dozen uncontested headers and volleys in the area reflects really badly on the coaching and management. Coming on the back of similar issues in Malmo then you wonder if we’ve even identified those issues that we need to resolve.

I’d say Griffiths was good today. That’s probably about all. Others played in fits and starts but we didn’t create enough chances and we certainly gave up far too many.

Our recruitment policy doesn’t look too bright now. We’re in the middle of a crucial double header and our great defensive hope is sitting in the stand because we bought him too late. Our other new centre back looks worse and worse each game. We have a left back on loan who looks no better than a guy we might pick up from St Mirren. Our midfield acquisition doesn’t even make the bench, despite an injury opening the door. Not saying he should, just saying we didn’t add quality to the team. And our new striker comes on for a cameo and looks as ineffective as he did the last few times he featured.

Early days for some of those purchases so not writing them off but we seem to think throwing a few young free agents at the team will improve it or fill the holes left by our best players we cashed in on.

My faith in Ronny Deila has diminished somewhat. He needs to sort out these defensive issues immediately. Boyata and Blackett look shit.

Re-watching that Aberdeen winner and it’s just appalling.

Brown is abysmal and I think he’s droppable on his current form. We just need to call up one of the defensive midfielders we signed over the summer. But Blackett is every bit as bad. Maybe not his man originally but he has every opportunity to deal with the ball and seems to duck a bit and then lean out of the way. Horrific stuff. And what the fuck is Gordon at - his confidence on crosses seems to be shot.

As bad a goal to concede as you’ll ever see to give up an unchallenged volley from that distance.

+1 to all that. @Mac mentioned Brown’s part and I thought Blackett was shocking too. His lack of awareness and failure to react to dangerous situations was mentioned a couple of times before the winner. And for all that it’s a big, loopy, hanging freekick into the wind and Gordon has to be dealing with that. It’s finished with a touch volley at ankle height around 4 yards out! A modest European standard side (e.g. Malmo) would take 2 or 3 off us so I think Ajax and Fenerbahce are more likely to emerge from our Europa League group as things stand.

I think Molde are more likely to progress as things stand. I’d fancy Fenerbahce and Ajax to hammer us. That Blackett signing has really pissed me off. It’s pointless. We’ve missed 3 decent left backs in recent seasons (Robertson, Shinnie, Douglas). We now have a pointless and not very promising loanee who will be returning to United at the end of the season and we’ll be stuck for a left back again.
