Addressing the Dublin Imbalance

There’s a storm coming. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you’re all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

A little old lady got off a bus on Leeson Street just now. She was messing with eye drops and asked a young passer by for directions to the eye and ear hospital.

It’s just around the corner he said. I can take you around there now if you’d like. And he did.

A lovely interaction to witness on a Thursday morning.

Nothing beats kindness. It sits quietly beyond all things.

That was very nice of you.

I’m only here to bear witness to it.

Was it John Small?

I like to think it was.

It’s wonderful to see Dublin have a fanbase in Croatia.

I believe the link was made when a group of Hajduk Split supporters came over for the week around that famous match against Shelbourne in 2004 and took in a Dublin match at Croke Park.

What sort of money would you be getting for a role like that?

Regional GDAs in Leinster are on anything from 28k to 35k. So unless the club are employing directly, it would be something like that you’d expect.

You’d think it would be higher as the hours are so unsociable with evenings/weekends tied up a lot of the time.

Not to mention the other payments.

Wasn’t he working for some youth charity/NGO previously? Wouldn’t strike me as particularly money-motivated

Expenses amount to fuck all really. Its a job for young lads out of college after doing their gaa course or sports science or whatever. Few years at it but once family or other things come along, its hard to keep at it with the wages and how time consuming it is. I looked at it myself a few years back and went a very long way in the process but ultimately it was a serious drop in wages and more time spent away from the home, so withdrew at the final hurdle.

He has popped up on my timeline a good few times. An awful wet blanket I’d say, a real conservative Ireland chap who would be fine and happy for us to be back under the boot of the catholic church
