AFL 2024

Has it ever happened that there was a last 4 line up which didn’t feature a team currently playing it’s home games in Melbourne?

  1. Preliminary finals were Sydney v Fremantle and Adelaide v West Coast.

2004 was the first non-Victorian Grand final when Port Adelaide beat Brisbane. A repeat pairing is a possibility in 2024 though Sydney will be strong favorites against Port.

Brisbane have a chance against Geelong though. That’s a twilight game next Saturday I believe which will probably mean a 7:35am bounce.

Fucking hell

Big Joe you bloody beauty.

Footy, bloody hell. Two savage contests this weekend in the greatest sports league on earth.

The Sunday Footy Show is a superb watch. The heads from RTE and the GAA should be looking at this and cogging the template. The problem for RTE and the GAA is finding analysts who can actually talk properly. I suppose that’s where Paul Flynn is handy.

Sydney 24 Port Adelaide 15 at quarter time in the first preliminary final. Tom Papley kicks a goal after the siren and then has the guernsey ripped off him in scenes all of us, I mean none of us, want to see.

Port Adelaide have won their last eight games against Sydney. The Swans have not beaten the Magpies since August 2016.

55-30 to Sydney at half time. Port did well to keep the margin to 25, the Swans smashed them for most of that quarter and are finding space much better in the forward line.

Conor Rozee and Wilie Rioli doing their best to keep Port in it.

This is much more like the Port Adelaide we know and love in finals. Meekly surrendering.

Two duds of finals in different codes next door to each other tonight in Moore Park.

36 points. Game wasn’t much of a contest after the first quarter siren.

Earworm. Especially the banjo bit.

Port are shite. Hawthorn would have been better off going through and long term, might have been better for port had they done so as they would have been more likely to make major changes to squad and management after a straight sets knockout. Busting a gut to get over hawks and 2 harmelss losses to geelong and sydney. Sydney will be hard bet next week. Expect they will have learned from the hammering from geelong a couple of years back.

Mullins stays in the geelong team and zach axed. Although geelong have made a lot of very late changes, so he might get back in yet, but if they make the gf, then both are on the fringes of being selected.

Tom Stewart back in for Geelong after missing the qualifying final. I fancy Brisbane though. They’ve been kicking behinds for fun all year but you don’t do that without dominating games.

AFL pummelled the NRL in Sydney tonight with a paltry crowd next door at the Sydney Football Stadium for the Cronulla-North Queensland Cowboys game.

Sydney-Hawthorn would have been a much better clash tonight alright. Maybe people are looking at Coach Hinkley in the wrong way though. Port have some stinking players on that list, players bad enough to play for Essendon. You’re not going to win anything with Charlie Dixon in your team.

Tactics are consistently shite in big games though so probably time for him to go alright.

They also have some really top end young players too and the bones of a side that can win, but its been like that for a while and despite being consistently at the upper end of the ladder every year, they go no where in finals. Ultimately, that falls back on hinkley

Geelong lead 4-1 with 8 minutes left of Q1.

Brisbane are going to win this.

If Mcinerney cant come back, and he looked in serious pain when his shoulder popped, then brisbane will find it very hard. Big Joe is out rucking and not having him as a target man or an outlet for clearances is a huge loss.

Geelong 11 Brisbane 20 quarter time. Brisbane look superior.

But Brisbane ruckman Oscar McInerney is gone off with a dislocated shoulder and Big Joe is having to contest the rucks. That’s a problem.

McInerney back on for now.

Kai Lohmann is the new Warwick Capper. What a mark.

By god we are purring now

OMFG what a move!!!

The Geelong fowards’ scavenging has been something else this quarter. Fourth goal in six minutes.
