Maurice Deegan offering up some charity to Armagh. Morgan clearly overcarries and then gets the benefit of the softest free you’ll ever see.
Beautiful score by Ciaran Thompson. Operating in the proverbial telephone box in terms of space but found what he needed.
Big goal chance for Armagh straight from the throw in. Long ball into Rian O’Neill but he caught it and stumbled two or three yards from the goal line and was bottled up and penalised. Marty Clarke thinks O’Neill’s bundling of the ball into the net was legitimate.
Second goal chance for Armagh denied. Aidan Nugent’s shot saved by Patton after Rian O’Neill’s 45 had come off the post.
Eight minutes of Armagh being on top fails to yield a single score but it’s Jamie Brennan who notches the first point of the second half for Donegal.
Lovely Donegal goal. McBrearty palms to the net after a succession of quick handpasses. The pace of moving the ball has been the difference. Armagh too methodical. They badly need to up the pace if they’re to have any hope of erasing a now daunting seven point gap.
Soupy Campbell starts Armagh on the road back with a beauty of an individual score.
Rian O’Neill follows with a bad wide on the left side where so many players have put it at that end.
Maurice Deegan gives an even softer free to Donegal than he gave to Armagh in the first half. 7 the gap. Ben Crealey reduces it to six with a great score. Armagh have form for comebacks so this is not over yet. Gap now looks set to be reduced to five with this free, and is. 1-11 to 0-9.
Armagh’s long kickout eviscerated again.
The power of Michael Murphy driving through the midfield, awesome. The conductor of the orchestra. Puts it on a plate for Michael Langan who blazes over in a clear one on one.
Shaping up to be another abysmal Ulster campaign by Armagh. Still not been in an Ulster final since they last won it in 08. Donegal far nobler and being rewarded for it, even if they have a clown in charge.
Of Armagh’s main players only Rory Grugan has produced the goods. Rian O’Neill has had a nightmare.
Completely bottled it today, terribly flat atmosphere at it too.
Great defence from Donegal.
It’s hard to believe Armagh didn’t ave a better plan for their own kick outs.
Superior movement the difference. Donegal players so much freer in their movement and more comfortable in possession. A lot of Armagh’s players looked laboured and musclebound the longer that went on.
A championship baptism for young Byron in the bearpit of Aughrim
The omnipresent Oisin McConville will be seething with Armaghs result
He was unbelievably biased on Second Captains the other day
League results really don’t matter until you have a big championship win.
I thought he made a bit of a show of himself on the podcast
I think the lads are wrong here and that disallowed Armagh goal at the start of the second half was correctly disallowed. Some level of protection has to be afforded to a goalkeeper in his own square.
