All-Ireland Hurling Championship 2019***

On the balance of form I’d say the Munster championship > Leinster championship. The Dublin result v Laois reinforces this believe. There wasn’t much between four of the Leinster teams and that usually means none of them are that good. I’d expect cork to win by five plus.

Kilkenny have had no consistency in team selection in the last few years.

Lads coming in for a game and going back out, e.g. James Maher.

Other lads being discarded for ages and then brought back in from the cold, e.g. Richie Hogan and John Donnelly.

Other lads seemingly settled in the side but then dropped, e.g. Enda Morrissey this time, likes of Billy Ryan in previous game.

Other lads not appearing to be fully fit and being thrown in for a game or two and then coming out and sometimes going back in, e.g. Buckley and W Walsh.

Not to mention lack of consistent positions for some lads. PĂĄdraig Walsh has been moved around and so has Paddy Deegan and Conor Fogarty.

Get the feeling they’re throwing darts.

That’s exactly how we differentiate between all the Limerick lads who post on here

Has John Donnelly been injured? He destroyed Limerick last year in the second half of the 1/4 final. Peter Casey nearly took his head off with about three minutes to go and the ref never gave a free in. Limerick went up the other end and scored an equaliser. It’s very small margins in these games but as you Kilkenny seem to have a band of lads injured and a band of lads rotated in and out.

That’s very disablist of you

It just goes to show that without all those all time greats like JJ and King Henry, Mr Cody is just a spoofer.

At least 2 of that cork half forward line are loose ball merchants. Kk will dig it out

Not sure if he was injured earlier in the season but he’s been listed in the subs for the last few championship games anyway. He came on near the end in Wexford Park but didn’t feature in the Leinster Final if I recall correctly.

Theres only one spoofer in the 3 above and it’s not Cody and sure as hell ain’t JJ

Too much are being made out of puck outs nowadays. Limerick won the largest percentage of their own puck outs in the opening game v cork. They were well beaten. Cork aren’t going to start hammering ball down on top of their half forward line. They’ll have a plan to get their zippy forwards into space to receive a drilled ball from Nash surely.

How close are kk to full strength?

Bar Walter being 100% this is as full strength as they get nowadays

It wasn’t Peter, it was Mike and that was to his chest and he made a meal of it…

Cork absolutely murdered us on their puckout in the second half. They consistently won ball inside our '45 and we had no answer.

In modern hurling it was definitely a free.

Eh, our puckouts were a complete shitshow in that game. About 90% of them were 50/50 balls lorried down on the half forward line.

I very slightly fancy Cork for this but I’m quite unsure. Their struggle to put away Waterford and losing to Clare has raised doubts. Interesting that Cody has named Hogan to start and Wally Welsh on the subs… Would any of the KK forumites hazard a guess as to how many of that 15 will start?

TJ Reid did worse in that game to ODonovan on the half way line and turned ball over for a kk point… Nothing given… I only watched this game back last week and Donnelly was trying to buy a free.

Yep but how they set up on Limericks puck outs was far more impressive. They usually allowed a Limerick player receive the ball unmarked but turning almost onto the sideline or turning in a wall of cork players. Limerick had no answer for it at all. Limerick returned to a hit and hope style. Corks movement is unreal. Teams like Clare can live with it but the likes of limerick and Kilkenny struggle massively. Kilkenny for me are LimerickLite. They’ll struggle massively with corks movement and short passing.

I would still fancy us if we were to play Cork again, on the basis of improving massively at puckout time & increasing our work rate.

Cork outworked us that day, and at the top of their game, look very slick. But they haven’t reached that level in any other game so far this season. But if they get over Kilkenny, they’ll certainly fancy their chances of beating us in a semi-final.

As for Kilkenny being LimerickLite, I don’t necessarily agree as they don’t really play a similar style. Limerick love moving the ball short out of defence into midfield, whereas Kilkenny are still a lot more direct (frankly, their use of possession can be very poor).

I’m making a prediction on the Kilkenny v cork game. People are talking on here about cork not winning puck outs when in fact no team in the country is as good from puck outs as them strategy wise. Cork know their strengths and will play to them.
