All Ireland Hurling Final 2024 - The Tony Kelly Final

You can’t pick an off form Tony Kelly and a loose ball hurler in David Fitz in the same half forward line - we saw what happened in the Munster final where the Limerick half back line had all day on the ball.

You also can’t drop Aidan Mc ahead of either of them given his free taking and workrate in the second half v Kilkenny.

If Taylor starts it is for TK or Fitz - but I think he will be held in reserve again til early second half.

What are the other options in half forward line? SOD?

It will be fluid enough with predominantly SOD but rotating with Rodgers and Reidy I’d say.

Clare haven’t a prayer without a firing Tony Kelly so I’m not sure you can pick a team thinking he might not play well

Yeah. Time for TK to step up instead of his usual no show in croker. He was anonymous for most of the semi again this year.

You can’t drop mccarthy. Did it from play and frees last day. If Taylor starts I’d leave out Kelly or David Fitz either would be a great sub to bring in.

Clare without Tony Kelly is hamlet without the prince.

He’s a supreme dispenser of joy and has to start.

Twould tip Roy over the edge completely if TK didn’t start

There’s lads on here who’d repaint the Mona Lisa if they got the chance.

Lads love to overthink things.

If a fully fit Tony Kelly isn’t deemed good enough to start an All Ireland Final, Croke Park may as well be burned to the ground as it would serve no purpose.

Fitz’s form seems to be a slightly downward trajectory as the season has gone on is it? To win they need him to catch fire as much or more than Kelly.

You’re spot on. We might as well pack it in.

He strikes me as the type of lad who could score 2-3 on a big day

Some lads have no appreciation for brains over brawn.

Its all about lads mullocking and cutting off space.

Would these lads tell you that Will O’Donoghue is a better hurler than Darragh Fitrzgibbon? (More ‘effective’ they’d say) :grinning:

He had a very prominent league but has yet to have a decent half of hurling in the championship let alone match. Just far too happy to let things pass him by, is still getting scores but just too passive with and without the ball. Had the odd 10 minute spell to give you hope where he gets a few balls off the shoulder and does damage then reverts.

It is obvious with Kelly that he still isn’t right from the injury but at least the graph is trending up, for Fitz it is the opposite.

Yeah that was my impression. Given how the season has gone I don’t think Fitz would respond well to being dropped. Maybe Lohan can have him pumped up for the final. He’s the definition of an enigmatic player. He doesn’t tackle or put in work like hegarty does but on his day he has the potential to catch fire and have a huge scoring impact the same as hegarty can. Clare need him to have one of his good days.

They probably would.

I do be mystified at times by some of these angles fellas come from.

Has Kelly played well in Croke Park since 2013? I don’t think so.
