All Ireland Under 21 Hurling Championship - 2014

welcome to the big league lads

Apparently Cunningham dislocated his knee-cap

Eddie Barrett did the same in the Waterford game.

Can be the lesser of two evils. Extremely painful obviously, but sometimes there’s no serious ligament or cartilage damage and the recovery time can be quite short.

Over developed quad, good to hear not as serious as ACL. Thought limerick were woeful , Obrien at 14 looks a handful but no real game plan and most of the forwards very poor and slow strikers.

Complete bastard of a place to get in and out of

That’s not confirmed, kid. Just what I’ve heard.

Disaster all round… Had indoor at nine and it all timed to leave at 8.45, delayed throw in and the Clare lads having a few smokes at half time meant I saw little of the second half. Not much more I can say than that Clare team are years ahead of limerick. Kelly head and shoulders above everyone but all the Clare senior panelists showed up and played well tonight. When Limerick went at them straight down the middle they got in two or three times but over did it or took the wrong option. Got no change from their half backs at all. Hard to pick a Limerick player out on just one half but Lynch did alright. Dowling was out on his feet after 10 minutes. Who goaled for Limerick and who got sent off?

Byrne @ 6 was sent off and Obrien @ 14 goaled

Did the lad doing his leaving play?

Yerra he was only on because his uncle is a selector

For Clare, I thought Morey went well at corner back, he was almost like an auxilery wing back at times in the first half and was a good outlet when he comes at pace looking for the ball. Browne had his hands full tonight, he is specialised corner back and is probably lacking a small bit more stature to play 3 but is still out best option. Shanahan was very good, lovely striker of a ball and was strong in the air and on the breaks while Cleary was excellent under the dropping balls and held the middle well.

Enright was busy throughout but struggled to make an impact in the first half before finally getting to the pitch of it in the second half, a couple of rushed/poor handpasses aside it was a good industrious performance from him. Galvin started slow but improved as the game went on while Kelly didn’t waste a ball throughout.

Peter Duggan was a constant threat to Limerick, won puckouts, broke ball, linked play and took scores. While Bobby Duggan and Cunningham did well, Cunningham was an excellent outlet in the second half. Gleeson looked good on the ball but didn’t see all that much of it, while Reidy was a disappointing and will struggle to hold his place

Ciaran Carey. The young lad started well but faded

the ginger fella

Best I’ve seen Jamie Shanahan hurl for Clare in a long time.

That pretty much sums it up.

Mark Carmody at 5, super game, on the senior panel, played early games of the league at corner back, not in the match day squad any more. 11 is David Dempsey, brother of Alan, just off last years minor team, super hurler.

Clare are literally years ahead of limerick, we had a very young u21 team. Lynch at midfield is 17 and while he is brilliant he was lumped out of it a lot. Clare were bigger all over the pitch. I think chewy pointed out their superior coaching in support play, but they also had a lot of tackling practice and holding the hand or the hurley was a clear tactic they got away with all evening. Kevin O’Brien brother of tommy at full forward was good and had a good battle with jack Browne. Think the Clare lads overrate Browne a bit, should have had a lot more frees blown against him and Kevin gave him a lot of difficulty.

I hope Ciarán stays on as manager for another year. I think he did an alright job with limited resources and while Clare were missing lads too, a few players we didn’t have today would have made a big difference. The difference in coaching was visible and limerick need to turf out Tom Ryan and get ger downes or someone in as a coach.

Finally, Dowling was the best limerick player in the classic Munster final v cork when he was 19. Today he was useless. He was a better player two years ago. He should have been lording it at this level and should have been a leader for the limerick team. He wasn’t drinking after the tipp game and he should be recovered plenty since Sunday. Needs a serious attitude adjustment.

Super game but he wasn’t troubled much by his marker. Don’t think he’d have lorded it like that marking one of the Lynch’s.
