I recall Dessie been involved with the hurlers under Mattie Kenny, the year Dublin turned over Galway in Parnell Park in the final round of Leinster to knock Galway out, whatever year that was. He was in the Dublin dugout that evening. He had some kind of peripheral role
I doubt very much Dessie behaved in bad faith on the decision of EOD to switch codes , personal choice by the player as you say

Dessie might not be an elite Inter County Manager but everything I hear tells me he is a great GAA man and has huge standing in Dublin GAA.
Heâd have gained a lot of respect in GAA circles had he told Eoghan to do one

He is elite enough Peddlers ! has managed Dublin to minor, under 21 and senior all irelands
I wouldnt be entirely surprised if he did a Pat Gilroy on it and managed the Dublin hurlers at some stage

Ah now, he had all timers there, a few who came back even to give him a dig out after retiring. A steady hand on the tiller. But the river is at his back, flowing downhill and the wind is strong in the sail.
He has a CV that anyone would wish for alright.
The story of the Ballinasloe Juniors in the All Ireland Junior Club Final turning up to Croke Park with no jerseys and Dessie pulling a rabbit out of the hat with the Na Fianna away set always reflects well on him.
