Nico Burdisso.
Roma defender Nicolas Burdisso wrote a touching open letter to Livorno captain Andrea Luci, whose son has a rare disease.
Luci admitted this week that his six-year-old son is suffering from a very rare genetic disease, Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva.
Livorno fans have rushed to raise funds for research into the condition and today Roma defender Burdisso sent this message.
āAndrea, this is the most important match you will ever have to face. As a father who has been through a difficult illness along with my daughter, I can advise you only to keep going, always, with faith in God and doing everything you possibly can.
āDo not think about the end result, but rather try to fight day after day, for Marco and for your family. All will go wellā¦
āI and the entire Roma squad embrace you at this moment. With time, this will all be just a memory. Forza!ā
Burdisso put his career on hold in 2004, as a few months after joining Inter his two-year-old daughter was diagnosed with acute leukaemia.
He returned to Argentina and President Massimo Moratti told the player he could have as much time as he needed, rejecting Burdissoās offer to terminate the contract.
The defender eventually did come back to resume his Inter career after seven months of looking after his daughter.
Does anybody in Italy realise you can send letters without them being āopenā?
Sounds like you fail to understand the concept of an open letter.
Attention seeking cunts.
Obviously not. This type of attention seeking behaviour should disqualify people from winning this award.
Its baffling, and a truly pathetic act in this instance, a true alright sort would have done this quietly without attempting to gain kudos from simple creatures such as rudi.
I would hope he has already been nominated but Zinedine Kilbane is very much an alright sort.
Just watching the late late here, Robbie Keane is a sound skin.
But Iād like to nominate little Donal from Connemara, he played a stormer and he has got Mark Renton feeling festive.
