Amir Khan dead

Two British toddlers have been killed in a car crash in northern Spain, police said today.

The children, named by sources as two-year-old Amir Khan and his sister Amelle, aged one, died as a result of the accident near Briviesca in the province of Burgos.

Their British mother, Gemma Martello, was taken to hospital with injuries, along with the father, a French national, and two other children.

The crash happened overnight between Saturday and Sunday on the AP1 motorway, local traffic police said.

A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: “We can confirm the death of two British nationals and the hospitalisation of another in Burgos, northern Spain, on Saturday.

“We are providing consular assistance.”
