I always felt Stokesy (and Aidan keena) are the biggest examples of levels in soccer. Looked absolutely fantastic at a certain level but couldn’t cut it all really when he moved up. Had an unreal loan spell at Falkirk or somebody at the start I think.
Did he get the winner?
The greatest game of football ever imho.
David Gray
Stokesy never tried a leg and was/is mad as a box of spiders.
He played a decent level in spite of that. He could have been anything
Let go your heart, let go your header
And it feel it now
The greatest game football of the 2010s. Not of all time.
He didn’t have the pace
He could move when needed, he was doing 160 getting away from the Guards
He was immense that day - could have scored 5 or 6. Given his family background though he was never gonna escape being a scumbag. The father has a lot to answer for.
Adoptive father!
How did he end up in school in Terenure?
Celtic Tiger money. A lot of the private schools picked up lads from the other side of the tracks who done good spinning property in Bulgaria.
And I doubt he was there long as he was over to Arsenal around 15 or 16.
He was taken in by a very decent family who really tried their best for him
Sometimes, can’t fight genes
Of all time.
A lot of the Arsenal kids from that era never panned out really for some reason. It was around the time Wenger was playing them all in League Cup matches and winning.
Left after the Junior Cert.
Not in goals though. It was rumoured at the time he put Seaman in the youth team.
