Up your bollox.

I’m on the train, next stop Wexford town, reading a Supplementary Agreement to a Facility Agreement and accompanying legal opinions from lender and borrower legal advisers on my work phone while simultaneously listening to Francis Lung and First Aid Kit on Spotify. Sheer bliss.

I gave a week to do your xmas shopping

whats is it

Don’t think such a thread exists, pal.

Finished work at 5 clock, not back until the 31st thank fuck.

You mug.

I know, bills have to be paid though.

Do you work 12 hour shifts micke? And how is things with the misses? One of my best mates works in Intel, worked there in Israel for years and moved back here and married an Israeli bird. He getting on ok with her but a big change for her. She hasn’t a clue what wed be saying most of the time with our mad accents!

What’s the etiquette in Ireland these days regarding drinking when working late?

It’s 8.25pm and I’m on my 3rd bottle.

I’ve traditionally marked 6.30pm as the threshold before I feel compelled to get a beer from the fridge. There comes a point when you still have work to do but need coaxing to get it over the line. For me, that point comes at 6.30pm.

I’d never have more than 4 mind.

Do you mean working from home or keeping bottles of beer in the fridge in work?

In the office.

Working from home, the threshold arrives around 1pm.

I could be wrong but I don’t think there’s been any concerted move to in-office drinking becoming acceptable or common place unless:

  1. You work in Google or Lovin Dublin or somewhere and they want to impress you with Friday afternoon drinks to go along with bean bags, relaxation rooms, comfortable cushions, pool and table tennis tables, morning yoga, evening pilates and anything else that will make it unnecessary for you to actually leave the building you work in.

  2. You might have an organised team or department night out that kicks off with drinks in the office but that would be rare.

It’s still much more common to head off early for pints or to attend lunches where there’ll be a bit of drinking than seeing anyone working away in the evening with a few beers.

That’s interesting. I never had an office job in Ireland and consider grabbing a beer from the fridge in the evening to be acceptable.

is that normal practice across the board, or are you (@Bandage) speaking from a financial services POV?

Back in the day in Germany, it was common practice to order beer from the canteen if one was still in the office after 6pm

I’ve never been in an office where beer is kept in the fridge. If the fridge is regularly stocked with beer then there must be expectation that people are going to drink in the office?
