What’s her father’s background…is he a professional coach?

Also - RTE social media asleep at the wheel letting that get lifted
They’re phoning it in. There was a time when RTÉ could churn out a montage for the ages in half an hour
The missed detail in this and the RTE coverage is that Georgia Bell the GB Olympic Bronze medalist is in the crowd waving an Irish flag for Sarah Healy. How far we’ve come etc.
Poor Sarah looks ridiculously uncomfortable on top of the podium. Sometimes it feels like she doesn’t believe her own talent and ability. She’s genuinely world class but you’d wonder does she believe she is. Hopefully this is the start of something for her.
And then at the other end of the scale Mark English is throwing a hail mary for his own career by putting work on hold to go full time for a year or two. Elite European but as Sonia says, he needs to make a world final. Hopefully that comes in 2 weeks in China.
And then there’s Kate. Hard to say she surpassed the other medalists but i think she has. And with a smile on her face the whole way. A ridiculously un-irish dominant performance in the 800m to get her medal. Pure moxy and balls. And then the interview with her Dad. She’s an absolute gem.
Sarah Lavins 4th feels a long time ago. Andrew Coscoran put himself out there in a way that he hasn’t been able to before. The wheel is slowly turning. A medal in China in 2 weeks is very unlikely. But savage confidence in Irish Athletics for a change.
Where’s Kate O Connor from? I’ve seen Dundalk but has competed for NI?
Born in Newry but from Dundalk. Think she’s doing a Masters in Queens at the moment
Cathal Dennehy talking to Sarah Healy about overcoming her nerves & the mental side of performing at championships.
Nicola Tuthill won the European U23 Hammer earlier today having come 2nd in it the last 2 years.
Oisin Joyce got bronze in the Mens U23 Hammer. And Anna Gavigan was 2nd in the Ladies U23 Discus.
3 Medals at the European throws events is a savage return from 5 entries.
Mark English and Cian McPhillips have pulled out of the World Indoors but Sarah’s Lavin and Healy, Kate, Andrew Coscoran and James Gormley will all travel to China for them.
When are those Worlds on?
Next weekend I think
World indoors start in the middle of the night our time. Kate O’Connors Pentathlon on tomorrow. Her evening and final events will be our time tomorrow morning.
I think she’s ranked no. 2 going into it. The Finnish lass is well clear of the field but a silver medal is there for Kate if she’s recovered well from the Europeans. It’s a European dominated sport so only 1 American to come in for completion from my limited research.
Not sure if RTE are covering but BBC2 are.

Kate in 2nd place after 3 events. Just the 2 PBs this morning. Less points than the Euros and a fairly congested leaderboard
Back on at 10.40 for the long jump and finishing in the 800m at 1.15ish
Some idea of how realistic a medal is for Kate
