Ating a dog

My daughter is plaguing me to get a dog she’s bringing it up constant any time she sees one. I think it’s too soon though she’s only 3 and we’ve a baby as well so hands full as it is - getting a dog feels nearly like having a third child or am I wrong? It’s chaotic enough as it is and I’m definitely not getting a house dog it’ll be some fella outdoors.

I’ve seen some smashing dogs lately - those huskie type dogs, Bernese mountain dogs, golden retrievers, that Japanese breed that starred in the film with Richard Gere.

Edit : sorry didn’t mean to reply directly to you there Julio

They’re alot of work. If you’ve your hands full wait a year or two until your daughter is a bit older and use it to show her a bit of responsibility. Once you get a dog you’ll probably never not have one.

The brother in law has an Irish Water Spaniel and the dog is as thick as a ditch. Big dog too. No fun having a stupid big dog.

There is serious work to be done with those breeds. I’d defer to @maurice_brown or @estebandaface was he still around but I’m sure you’d want proper time to train any of those breeds, let alone with a baba around

Depending on the breed, a pup is worse than a baby. I have a bull terrier here and he is a nightmare, Fintan was a lot easier

A poorly trained dog will be a nuisance. You need to be fair to the dog and invest the time into them early. A giddy puppy would be a nightmare with a baby

What Raylan said.
Don’t buy any pet for a kid if you, the adult cannot invest the time in the pet.

Edit: apologies @Loko_Cove I should have replied to @Smark

We’ve our lad almost three months. Once they get the hang of the toilet training it’s grand. Nice to have an excuse to get out of the house with him.

I’ve a newborn and it’s hard work with the dog. He’s the finest and isn’t bothering the newborn but you can’t forget about him. He still needs to be walked, feed and given attention. I Def wouldn’t get one if I have a baby but didn’t work out that way. Still wouldn’t swap.

You’d have to blame the brother in law in fairness

I’d put nothing past the doggy dog crew.

Brilliant piece of advice.By all accounts, they make remarkable companions.
