Auld lads taking pictures of pints

I was on there one night a while back and the lad was giving me free shots of the house whiskey

Fagan has a cosy little number moonlighting for RTE on the High Road, Low Road TV show. He simply travels to Budapest, Warsaw or wherever scouting out the hot and not so hot spots in these cities.

I presumed before and posted same that the bauld Fagan probably has an estranged love child over in central to Northern Europe. Somewhere around Benelux.

However now that he’s a grandparent. All is forgiven and he’s back with visiting rights.

He never says much about a Mrs. O’Dowd. I respect him for that.

It’s a fine looking pint but I’d run a mile if I was asked to polish it….

50 years ago it was as cool as fuck to be leathering into them but as the years moved on and fresh competition entered the market their lustre waned. Wicked popular still in villages like Kinawley, Derrylin etc…

When in Rome, me auld pal.

I’d a grand evening out there. A few auld work colleagues picked me up in a taxi. The driver, an African man, overheard the conversation about Louth going well and quipped that “we won’t Sam Maguire though. A year or two too early”. He got into a big chat about the football then.

We landed into the Camelot in the north end of “da town”, an area a little more rough around the edges in a town perhaps a little more rough around the edges. I cut back on stout in the summer so said I’d call a Harp. “We only have it in cans,” was the response from the woman behind the counter. I’ve been up here 8.5 years and I think it’s the first place I’ve been without Harp on tap. Anyway, one of my comrades calls a Tennents. I never had a Tennents so I call one too. 15 euro for a round of 3. I don’t think I need to have a Tennents again.

A pal had picked us up tickets for the opening night of the Louth Contemporary Music Festival, which was starting in a local COI church. My take on ‘contemporary music’ is what we’d sometimes refer to us as classical because of its setting and instruments but was from the last century as opposed to hundreds of years ago and leans on minalimsm, repetition, etc. Now, I’d be more a man for the three minute punk tune but I dig a bit of Steve Reich or Philip Glass as much as the next man. The first two “pieces” featured a soprano which I just couldn’t get into but the final piece was more well-known and was called “Coming Together” and was mighty: Frederic Rzewski - Coming together (1971) - TO LISTEN TO

The only thing was I was absolutely gasping for a pint afterwards. We ended up down at the Spirit Store where I had a feed of Brehon Hazy Pale Ales, or something like that, before retiring to the Greenore Railway Saloon (an immaculate premises) for a few Harp and the Scotland game.

A fine evening out. One of my last nights supping in the wee county.

A tremendous report. It was almost like I was there amongst you all.

Solid scooping as well to top it off. You’ll miss them mad border bastards…

It is of course.

But there ever only seems to be one drink on the table.

Tennents is the absolute worst. It’s hard to understand why a drink that bad exists when there are literally other drinks beside it in the pub.

They drink it in scotland and therefore the north, out of a sense of self loathing I reckon

Same as lads drinking Heineken here I suppose.

Why are you drinking in a bathroom?
