Australian Open 2016

Can’t see verdasco troubling nadal. Reckon it will be a Murray wawrinka semi. Federer you would expect to come through unless berdych has been hypnotised not to fear federer and cilic is interested. Kyrgios won’t make the semi’s

There’s a few banana skins for Federer before the quarter,. Goffin and Dimitrov being two.

I don’t know. Goffin I don’t think has the game to trouble the top guys. Murray destroyed him in the Davis cup final on clay his best surface.

Hard to know where dimitrov is after his shite year last year. Hopefully he can be competitive and make a move on the top players this year.

Nadal gone

Saving his energy for the french open in may. :grinning:

@tazdedub is the most authoritative voice on tennis on this forum. He’s really put @Nembo_Kid back in his box here. This is the bullshit @Nembo_Kid was spouting back in November.

Nadal supporters have been in denial for a while now. Unfortunately he is not going to come back to heights he achieved. He has lost the fear factor, players like verdasco would never have won that match a couple of years ago but now all the players from 1 to 50 know they have a chance to beat him.

Nasal also has to change his game, he can’t keep running around the backhand and playing long rallies. Look at federer and how he has changed his game, playing shorter rallies and finishing points quickly. Thing is Nadal either needs to change and get another coach in but I don’t think he cxan change.

More than anything he needed to change coach at the end of the year. Nadal had been on the slide really since 2013 before the real steep decline set in last year. He just about fell over the line at Roland Garros in 2014 and hasn’t been a force in any of the other Grand Slams for years.

I think the last really good run he had was when he last won the US Open after coming back from injury and winning everything at the end of that year.

Caroline wozniacki also needs to have a reality check and get rid of her dad and get in a new coach. Her dad has taken her as far as he can and if she wants to win a slam she needs to change

I know you like your history Geoff, but I’d say the posts above from 2 days ago make absolute shite of the point you’re trying to make

It doesn’t. Nadal has been more or less washed up since 2013. That’s been clear to any kind of objective viewer with an understanding and insight into tennis.

Heralding a return to the top echelons for Nadal on the basis of a few decent results on carpets in London in late November when most players are already on the beach was delusional. The post of two days ago was plotting a path through the draw to the final for Nadal which was pie in the sky talk.

Nadal was 15-2 against Verdasco before today, but he’s now constantly losing to that type of player. If he turns up with his A game, he’ll win but the days when he has his A game on court are increasingly rarer.

Just watched the highlights there of the nadal verdassco match. Verdassco won 6 games in a row in the last set to win the match. He was 2-0 down in that set. Verdassco was playing out of skin.

Novak Djokovic [1] –v- Andreas Seppi [28]
Federico Delbonis –v- Gilles Simon[14]
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA) [9] –v- Pierre-Hugues Herbert
Guillermo Garcia-Lopez [26] –v- Kei Nishikori [7]

Roger Federer [3] –v- Grigor Dimitrov [27]
Dominic Thiem [19] –v- David Goffin [15]
Marin Cilic [12] –v- Roberto Bautista Agut [24]
Nick Kyrgios [29] –v- Tomas Berdych [6]

Top half of the draw for the 3rd round finalised. 14 of the 16 seeds safely through, the only casualties Benoit Paire (17) and an injured Ivo Karlovic (22). I’d expect Djokovic to sail through to the quarters. Nishikori would be an interesting quarter final opponent if he negotiates the next two rounds.

If Federer produces close to his top game, he’ll make it through to semis. He is prone to lapses now though and Baby Fed in Round 3, Goffin in Round 4, Cilic/Nick the Greek/Tommy the Bird in the quarters are all capable of taking him out if he’s not on song. At nearly 35, recovery time is an issue now for Federer and I suspect he’ll trip up before the semis.

I will be so happy if Nick wins it

Thanks for regurgitating what I said a few days ago, Jeff.

Its going to be a Djokovic/Wawrinka final.

Verdassco knocked out after taking out Nadal. No real shocks in overnight in the Men’s. Jack Sock is 2 sets down against Rosol. I would have expects Sock to win this. Close match both sets won on tie breaks. Stan is 2 sets up and leading 4-3 in the third.

4th round draw completed.

Novak Djokovic [1] –v- Gilles Simon[14]
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA) [9] –v- Kei Nishikori [7]

Roger Federer [3] –v- David Goffin [15]
Roberto Bautista Agut [24] –v- Tomas Berdych [6]

Andrey Kuznetsov –v- Gael Monfils [23]
Milos Raonic [13] –v- Stan Wawrinka [4]

David Ferrer [8] –v- John Isner [10]
Bernard Tomic [16] –v- Andy Murray [2]

The Raonic/Wawrinka and Tomic/Murray would be the pick of those. I would expect Federer and djokovic to win their matches. The Tsonga/nishikori match could be a good one just depends on what mood Tsonga turns up in.

Going to a 5th set. Simon levels it up at 2-2. Djokovic really out of sorts today, 84 unforced errors so far. Needs to buck up or he’s going out.
