Messi consistently underperforms for his country and lets the lesser players lead the charge.
Bale has carried a footballing minnow on his back in this qualifying campaign. Their reliance of him is huge and I am a Bale convert, he’s the greatest player Britain has ever produced.

Yes for me too. Bale by his own admission didn’t play well last night but still should have had a brilliant assist for the disallowed goal and then popped up with that bullet header. He’s scored or assisted in all but 1 of their qualifying group goals. While Messi hides, Bale seeks. His header last night with the hanging leap and the way his physique shrugged his opponent aside midair reminded me of Cristiano Ronaldo. Speaking of which, Ronaldo is still a fair bit better than Bale and streets ahead of Messi.

What Bale has achieved with Wales in this qualifying campaign is remarkable, a huge achievement. There’s not many comparatives to it in recent times, Zlatan with Sweden would be an obvious one.
The way he has led his team speaks a lot about his character, no ego or tantrums, just honest hard work and humility. He’s a smashing lad.

Take his performances at Barcelona to Argentina, take him out of his comfort zone and he’s incomparable. The Messi for Argentina is a pale shadow of that for Barcelona, numerous managers have tried to move heaven and earth for Messi to create the right environment and he has failed to shine. He upsets the team dynamic of Agentina and if they want to win the big ones, they have to find a manager with the balls big enough to drop Messi.

Qualification?
Argentina are expected to qualify comfortably for every World Cup. They are a footballing super power, they have a star studded squad and they have a guy who is mean to be the greatest player in the world who ends up shitting his pants when the stakes get higher.
Bale on the other hand, takes responsibility and leads his team like a player of his standing should. He lives up to his reputation and I will admit to being very dubious on him before but he’s changed my mind, I’m now a Baleiever.
