The winner also gets a turkey for the Christmas. The runner up gets a ham.

Semi-finalists get selection boxes.

There are very nice bonuses which make it well worth the while of the players to reach the business end.

Johan is playing well here

Packed house at the Home Of Darts.

Marco Meijer is some referee.

Um-umwud and thuuhty fauh!

Huge set there from Ben Robb.

He was on for an 11 darter there at one stage but eventually closes out the set in 18 darts.

Ben looks like he’d do a good job at full forward for a Gaelic football senior club team.

He’s getting rightly stuck into that 20 bed. “Sixty”.

“Eighty-faaah-eeve”.

“Fauhty-nah-een”.

Christ I could listen to Marco all day.

Another set for Rob.Playing well now.

Johan’s nickname is “The Sweet Ferret”.

He needs to ferret his way back into this and he’s knocked in a couple of 180s in this leg and the last so he’s going the right way about it.

Big Ben gets the job done

The “Big Rig” advances to play Neil Duff in the next round. It doesn’t get any tougher than that.

Johan lost nothing in defeat however and his gracious reaction marks him out as a true sportsman.

Reigning World Professional Darts Champion Shane McGuirk shrugged off his exertions at his friend’s wedding to make light work of dangerous Dutch raider Stefan Schroder there in the last hour.

He lost the first set but then roared back taking nine legs in a row to win 3-1.

Shane is unseeded - that the reigning World Champion is unseeded is the ultimate demonstration of the strength in depth on the WDF circuit.

A good day for Monaghan sport.

Nenagh man Stephen Rosney who plays his darts for Offaly is also into the next round with a good 3-0 win.

He must be the first Tipp man to play for Offaly since Aidan Ryan in 1998.

Our man the “Big Rig” Ben Robb has only gone and beaten 2022 World Champion Neil Duff 3-1.

I’ll tell you what, Big Ben can play darts. He was a banging in the 180s for fun and took the clinching set in 11, 13 and 12 darts. He notched a 96.29 average overall.

In one leg in set 3 when it was 1-1 Duff had got off to a great start and then Big Ben polished off 360 in seven darts, 180, 140 and double top, an absolute killer.

Having seen both of the Big Rig’s matches I now feel I have a personal interest in his fortunes, like when you see a genius band when nobody else has heard of them.

If Shane can’t retain the most prestigious title in all of sport I’d like to see it go to New Zealand.

Could be a dark horse to win it out.Stephen Rosney is playing tomorrow and Mcguirk is playing Thursday.

Smashing Beneluxian derby here between Francois Schweyen of Belgium and Jeffrey Sparridans of Holland.

One set each so it’s Schweyen one way and then the other.

Jeffrey has a pure Guard’s head on him.

Looks a bit like Moyesie actually.

Francois very like the great Scott Waites in style. Scotty was the master of the comeback and Francois has just come back from 2-o down in legs in set 4 to take us all the way. A Lakeside classic!

Clutch 24 dart hold for Jeffrey for 1-1 in the decider with Francois sitting on madhouse.

Francois is regularly stopping before his three dartss to breathe deeply.

The pressure of the Lakeside stage gets to even the very best.

And we have a final leg decider!

Francois wins it! What a comeback by last year’s semi-finalist! He went 140, 140, 140 at the start of the deciding leg to leave himself on 81 after 9 darts, then hit 53 to leave double 14. He hit it on the fourth go. Scintillating darts.

The Dutch Open champion is out!

And in our next match we have Haruki Muramatsu, who, after five appearances at the pdc championship at the Ally Pally, is finally making the step up to join the big boys as he plays Matt Clark.

Good win for Rosney.

The new production is way better.
