Best Nite Club / Late Bar in Dublin

Tough call as lots of places can be good / crap on any given night. I’ve definitely overfished the waters of D2, Flannery, Coppers over the past few years so pretty tired of them (although you can never rule them out after 10 pints). Same goes for Q-Bar. Never rated the Odeon and can’t stand the whole Dawson st scene. Haven’t been to Dandelion but i hear conflicting reports. Boomerangs is full of knacks and Hen parties but a bit of totty on occasion aswell so its worth a biennial visit. Big fan of Howl at the moon at the moment - decent mix of boggers, d4 heads & other types. Good talent (nice ladies too :), and i like the layout. The downside being the queues are a bitch so have to be in pretty early. As an all rounder it gets my vote.

*Deliberately omitted Leggs as its more likely to be visited after any of the above.

I went for Roddy Bolands. was there with Hackett a few weeks back, collosal night out. Good music, good talent, decent prices, no cover charge, the pints werent bad. I was very satisfied.

If i had more votes might say D2 or Howl also (its got very popular recently - last 6 months or so).

Mc gowans in churchtown isnt bad, although its a bit isolated

Howl at the moon(even though it plays tripe music). The interior is fantastic.

you have a terrible taste in music. you dont listen to anything that isnt sung with a scumbag english accent. amatuer

Listen up Mister Shania Twain. My taste in music isnt influenced by anything other than my personal taste which you can’t say for some people 8). To say I dont listen to anything non-english is factually incorrect. Lets keep personal rows off this board anyway.

Howl at the Moon at the moment. Great layout. Particularly in comparison to the rest.

yabba dabba dooooo, im talking to you.

does anyone else get sudden murderous rages, like you wanna pick up a knife and start choppin people up, or else shoot the joint up?

I?d have to go for Howl at the Moon too but the queue needs sorting ? they seem to have a 1 in and 1 out policy after about 10.30pm even if it?s not that packed inside. A day of Bar 51, Howl, then Leggs is always good for a laugh.

That Dandelion seemed decent any night I was in there but there?s something incredibly wrong about paying over ?5 for a pint so that rules out that, Dawson St (Caf? Insane) and the Odeous.

Must say I?m a big fan of Whelan?s too, probably because I only go there a few times a year. I was at Duke Special there a few months back and after the gig the dj was playing some top stuff. I specifically remember he played Interpol, Arcade Fire, The Smiths, Bloc Party and New Order straight after each other that night. Where else would you get cracking tunes like that on a night out? The birds can be hit or miss though.

Im a huge fan of Whelans myself, great music, dj’s are usually willing to play anything you want, although getting any Stone Roses song other than Love Spreads seems to be a challange. The smoking section probably has the best banter in Dublin too.

I?m at a loss to pick my favourite venue in Dublin at the moment, Howl at the Moon has become extremely popular over the last few months but I don?t rate it as one of the greats. I think it?s success has largely been based on a lack of opposition rather than anything special. The d?cor is nice and all that but I just think something is lacking, I find it hard to express myself in there and I think it lacks atmosphere, much like a new football ground. Went there last Friday and again had a mixed night.

If I was to name the greatest venue in my lifetime it would undoubtedly be The Palace/Planet Murphy before it went into self imposed exile in May 2002. ?1.50/?2 a drink, great music and cracking birds, it had everything. Out of respect for the great times I had there in the past I did not return to the reborn Palace until this Saturday and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised, thought the birds were cracking although most of them were in the college age bracket. I?ve since been accused of havin the beer goggles on but I stand by my call.

Another great venue of the past was Tramco before the renovation commenced in Ocotber 2003. Spent many a happy night there and for a while it eased the pain of the closure of The Palace but that too didn?t last and since it reopened it has never recaptured it?s old form. All I can ask is why?

As for Coppers, it does exactly what it says on the tin.

I walked into Howl in the Moon once and promptly left due to the dirty whiff of pretentiousness emanating from it. Did I get this horribly wrong?

Coppers smells like desperation. Prime example - bandage lickd my face in there one evening. Had made it perfectly obvious I wasn’t interested. Couple this with the fact that he was sporting a skinhead and Citeh jersey and I was on a floppy for a week.

D2 smells like top fanny (but unattainble fanny).

Have been in The Village only a couple of times but really liked the atmosphere and music. Don’t really remember the birds.

The Odeon is shi’it.

Tramco is fun but quite Coppers-like.

Oh and The Palace was terrible on Saturday - don’t listen to briantinnion.

Spot on Clarkey, but I’m partial to a bit of prention myself so I’m still not sure why I’m not gone on it.

You’re wrong on that one Clarkey, spoke to some of the guys I was out with on Saturday night and the birds were cracking in The Palace. I’m gonna go back this weekend just to make sure though.

Howl at the Moon for me as well

Best satisfies the criteria that Steamer specified

The bouncers there are actually sound enough which is amazing

Exalt to Coppers for playing Horslips “Trouble with a Capital T” last night. Really enjoyed it.

who art thou?

Magnificent display outside D2 last night, never seen so many hot birds in one place. Unfortunately didn?t get in due to overcrowding but was happy enough just to see what was outside.

Exalt to Coppers for playing the Joyce Country Ceili Band by the Saw Doctors last night, magic.

Turned away from both D2 and the Wes, what are the chances.

Was in Howl at the Moon last night for the first time in about a year and fook me i have never seen anything like the gee on show. Absolute wall to wall hotties and i was sober going in so it wasn’t the beer goggles playing tricks. The downside is they’re now charging 10 quid in and 5.90 a pint!

I was there friday night. Cracking brds alright though I don’t much like the place. Thankfully I was well oiled so I didn’t need more than 2 pints.
There was an incident when we were queueing up to go in involving a very hot bird acting the dickhead. Can’t remember the exact details, I was fairly drunk, but I fully expected the bouncers to take her side over mine due to the fact she was a bird and was pleasently surprised when he unceremoniously told her to fuck off back to the end of the rather long queue. Made my night.

I was in Krystle last week… I think it gets an unfair rap due to the Katy French thing. At least there’s no beered up heifers in there.
