I’m a big fan of a punt as can be attested to by a quick look at the degenerates thread but bookies need to be reigned in big time (pun intended).
FOBT’s should be banned (those poker machine in pubs should be gone as well)
Virtual racing, or virtual anything, should be banned
Casino style games should be banned.
Online casino’s that are not games of skill should be banned (I would exempt poker not played against the house for example)
Advertising should be banned, or at the very least heavily restricted
There should also be limits on the amount of losses a punter can run up online in a month before they have to give KYC to prove they can afford to lose the money. Bookies should have to share info on problem gamblers also.
This wouldn’t stop problem gambling but it would make it harder. Nothing to stop a fella opening ten bookie accounts or traipsing around the shops etc. but it’s a start.
Bookies will find ways around it, early morning greyhound meetings in Kilkenny for example. But at least they employ a few people in the dog industry, handful of people at the track etc.
Ladbrokes are still BOG on bets placed online the night before as far as i know, but alas things are getting more difficult with bookies turning the screw on these small graces. The doing of treble odds in lucky15s was a dagger to my heart.
I’d have no problems if they went back to not pricing up races till 9am or 10am on the morning of the races. At least then the markets would be liquid and you’d have a chance of getting a decent wedge on without killing the price. Overnight markets have killed off a lot of this with a couple of hundred quid killing a price in some cases which is a joke
In Ladbrokes and Powers shops (Not sure about Boyles) you are only guaranteed BOG for the first 500 of your stake. So if you wanted wrote down 600 @ 4/5 on the slip. The first 500 of that would be on @ 4/5 and the remaining 100 would be put on at SP. Don’t put more than 500 on a single bet if you want the BOG. Split it up between bookies if possible
