Am I missing something here? TV3 had the news on the 23rd. They gave Lenihan ample time to tell who he wanted over the Xmas before releasing the story on the 26th. It may have been distasteful to have on that cancer expert and to get a half hour programme out of it but thats Todays society for you.
Nobody made any comment to the link to the Jade Goody death watch thread I posted up. Whats the difference between Goody and Lenihan? Would both not bleed if they were pricked?

I didnt think the Goody thread was in very good taste either but to be fair the main difference was Goody sold her story for as much as she could get and courted all the publicity to raise money for her family. Lenihan situation is a world away from this.

glad that tv3 aren’t liked by the pooliticos after this, it means that we may actually have one objective news outlet
the fact that the govt spokesman trotted out the line of a hernia when they knew it was somethng much different shows the disdain that the politicos have for the public interest

So let me get this straight, because i don’t agree with a news outlet allowing a sick man to break the news in his own way, I shouldn’t be allowed predict who I feel might pass away naturally or otherwise over the coming year? Does this also mean that because I favour Ireland in rugby I shouldn’t be allowed predict who might win a game between England and France?
I do my own thing Tipper, and its not just me who thinks you’re talking through your hole here. TV3 messed this one up badly, and have made a bit of a show of themselves. This has nothing to do with the budget he produced, perhaps the civil servants should let it go.

Isn’t the crux of the matter that a news agency should report the news without fear or favours? Not reporting a news item because you want to keep well in with Fianna Fail is a contemptable stance imho, one which RTE suffers under from time to time.
I don’t think TV3 can be accused of taking a stand for journalistic integrity but you’re dead right. If the Sindo hadn’t ran a few articles on this there would be fuck all talk about it. A complete non-issue.
