Buff strikes me as the kinda man who wouldn’t have a passport.

He lost it in Heuston. Likely thought he needed it at the border with the pale.

About 13 or 14 counties play hurling so out of 32 that would be about 40%. Do 40% of the world’s countries play rugby?

They do indeed pal.

I’m sure you believe it.

No it’s a fact mate. Your hilarious 40% of Irish counties post aside (who are the 14?). 40% of a tiny island as well lolz.

World Rugby has 102 members and 17 associate members. That is more than 40% of the Nations of the world.

Every county in Ireland plays hurling mate. 40% play to a good standard

Rugby was invented by an ancestor of Forrest Gump who just picked up a ball up ran. It requires no skill. Hurling requires a certain level of skill.

Lolz.

There’s about 7 counties that take hurling seriously, the rest of the country ignores it.

There is no meaningful Connacht or Ulster championship. Leinster needs Galway and Kerry to pad out the numbers and the Munster championship is a non-event with only 4 games in the entire thing. It’s no wonder the GGA are desperately trying to revamp it.

Lolz. Hurling gets endless promotion in Ireland where it is barely played outside of one province and the public don’t care.

The excuses that you’re all skilful, it’s because it’s a mediocre game. Oirish people like to claim that it’s some sort of amazing spectacle but the facts are that it doesn’t rate well versus the other 3 field sports and its marquee game regularly does not sell out.

… conveniently missing the key point that hurling is an extremely difficult game to play and requires a certain level of skill. That is the main reason why it is not played by everyone. Rugby requires no skill to play.

But they all get up for work the morning after Tim…

They’re all on their summer holidays from teaching and college at the moment mate.

Hurling is an easy game to play that has no tactics.

A team from Dalkey that have only 1 pitch and only practice stick hurling twice a week are all-Ireland champions.

I was merely pointing out that every county in Ireland plays hurling and a decent proportion of those play it to a decent standard mate

Hurling is mediocre and rugby isn’t?

Rugby has lots of skills. There’s even a fellow on the other side of the world who can pick up a bouncing ball with one hand.

Rugby is growing throughout the world mate. Rugby’s traditional growth worldwide came not just from Brittania Ruling the waves, but also from the likes of Irish missionaries. They did the same with hurling in places like Australia but nobody cared there for it. Rugby is now using its competitions that generate hundreds of millions of pounds to grow the sport and are going into new markets for the RWC like Japan. The equivalent in hurling’s growth is Galway entering the Leinster championship.

The height of hurling’s international growth is Joe.ie pointing out tweets from Brits amazed at the zaniness of it.

Domestically it needs countries from other provinces to fill out its only two proncivial championships.

You could say the same about volleyball.
