Perhaps for a generation far older than me, I’m sure lots of people will pretend they do but I know nobody who ever listened to her music, she just didn’t register.

Aretha Franklin was a global phenomenon. Known the world over. Everyone knew her music and whether you were into her music or not is fairly irrelevant.
