RIP, I think he won the Carrolls Irish Open in 76? I vaguely remember watching the end of it on the TV in the Bulgaden Castle Lounge on the way back from a match in Bruff with my father and Jimmy Ryan, Limerick All Ireland Junior Hurling medallist from the 1930’s. Bulgaden was only a bar in those days.

They lost a younger son to a car accident outside Kilcolgan back in the late 90’s.
Won four times on the European Tour including an Irish Open and the Dunhill Masters. He finished 5th and 3rd at The Open in 1976 and 1985 respectively.
Definitely a better win record than McGinley from what I can see.
