I sometimes think to myself that the first half of the 1970s was the true golden age of English football.
Proper scarves, proper flat caps with team colours, proper singing, proper players, proper nicknames, proper post-match interviews, proper tackles, proper pitches, proper commentators, proper hooliganism, proper banners with a pole at each end.
The only places you see those sorts of banners now are Winning Streak and the Rose of Tralee.
Golden age of everything. Music, film, current affairs. I would love to have been of formative years back then.
