You are correct .
I think Dunphy belatedly apologised for it, but the likes of Eilis O’Hanlon, Ruth Dudley Edwards, Eoghan Harris and Conor Cruise O’Brien went after Hume for years after the first IRA ceasefire. There are a few pictures of Sindo articles from that time being posted on twitter etc in the wake of today’s sad news.
In many ways Dunphy was a bigger cunt than any of the other cunts you mentioned .
That quote was in the immediate aftermath of the IRA/SF murder of Patsy Gillespie.
Eoghan Harris said he was sickened by the support for John Hume south of the border.
RIP
A colossus
The epitome of being on the ‘wrong side of history’. It’s actually hard to believe now that ‘talking to sf or the ira’ was seen as any way controversial. What a bunch of dopey bastards
I don’t claim to be an early adapter like @briantinnion, but you’d have to be a massive crank to deny the brilliance of Taylor Swift. I was listening to the new album during my afternoon walk and found the lyrics of Cardigan quite arresting when she sings about having felt like an old cardigan thrown on the bed until “you picked me up.”
Very arrogant people.
Harris now boasting about how he called out John Bruton for not supporting the peace process enough.
I was out at home today and my father told me that whenever John Hume passed through he would visit the local credit union. He founded or was one of the founders of credit unions in Northern Ireland.
BTW, I had a little Google of Eoghan Harris there and the second suggestion in Google is “Eoghan Harris West Brit”. I also learned that Harris’s cancer has returned. I’m very sorry to hear that he won’t live to see Sinn Fein in government.
What’s the link to John Hume?
None of us might
Hume was very swift to enter talks with John Taylor of the uup
Are you all right?
Ah yeah, I’m grand. Think I posted that on the wrong thread - it should have went on the Scottish football 2020/21 one.
Is she dead?
The collaboration with Bon Iver on the new album is sensational… Exile
Context mate,
she nominated him and spoke (championed) in his favour as Ireland’s ‘person of the millenium’ or something, it was a big deal at the time
Fair enough
However this is the internet so I can’t back down now
