Played in the FA Cup final 3 months later!

It is just beyond comprehension how United went on to win the European Cup a decade later. To have what could have been United’s greatest ever team decimated like that but recover against all adversity.

Definitely one of the greatest to ever play the game. RIP.

I’m not a Man Utd fan but that whole period was just legendary really.

Throw Best into the mix then later on.

Charlton looking unfit for the Irish climate.

Funnily enough Johnny Giles was only on the radio Thursday night saying he was a football genius but thick as a ditch. You got the impression Giles hadn’t much time for him as a person

Al Finucane there in the front?

Gilesey wasn’t wanted at United

If you were pick all-time association football teams for a Dead v Alive match, who would have the stronger team on paper? A few years back the Alive team would have looked much stronger than its opponents but the Dead team have gone on a relentless signing spree recently and you’d have to say the balance between the teams is just about even at the moment, with the strong likelihood that the balance of power will permanently shift as the years go on.

The Dead team would win unless the sending off steeled the Alive team together.

Forgot the second Ronaldo.

I think Joe Delaney was the Chairman who brought Charlton over.

I read Giles’s book.

He wasn’t a huge fan of Bobby as he told John to fuck off when playing in a match with him after John had a go for not tracking back or something.

There was a realisation though that he was so good that he shouldn’t be bothering himself with such orders.
